Welcome aboard from central North Carolina. Now you have the Dunhill on the rack, you may want to round out your rotation with an MM cob (I recommend the special editions with acrylic stems); a Meerschaum estate or new; and pipes sampled around from various brands ... Savinelli, Chacom, Ashton, Nording, etc. etc. You may eventually want at least one small, so-called Group 1, pipe for sampling, extra strong blends, or full-length smokes with flake/coin/plug/rope cuts. And then at least one extra large pipe for long ruminative smokes. This is called an invitation to PAD, pipe acquisition disorder.

You should have the Dunhill professionally cleaned and that way the first tobacco you put in it wan't taste like a Donkey's ass.
The object of smoking a pipe is to get the most flavor possible from your tobacco whichever that might be. Nothing will ruin a nice bowl of tobacco is a dirty pipe, If you don't know how to properly clean it I would send it out this way you are starting your journey with a pipe that will not cause you to not taste the tobacco you are smoking..

I think many new people have trouble recognizing when a pipe is dirty. In my mind after you smoke a pipe once, it is dirty and needs to be cleaned. A regular cleaning after just one bowl is not a big deal. Run a couple of BJ Long extra fluffy tapered cleaners through the stem. Then double those over and wipe out your bowl of ash and left over tobacco.

Then get a BJ Long Tapered Bristle cleaner, double it in half and run it into the shank scrubbing back and forth a few times. Then do the exact same thing with another fresh britslte cleaner. Take the last bristle cleaner and double it again and jam it into the shank and start working on the mortise. People don't realize how much junk can be in the mortise to don't ignore it.

I do this to every pipe I own after smoking thee pipe just once. I pay good money for my tobacco and I want it to taste as perfect as it can. Why fight getting flavor from a dirty pipe. You are just wasting tobacco. You only get so many chances of smoking a pipe per day, don't you want it to be as good as possible? I know some of think it is over kill but I never have to worry about not getting the flavors I expect or deserve.

It takes all of 3-4 minutes to do this. You pay good money, don't you want the best flavors possible?

As a non and never cigarette smoker, I enjoyed cigars on occasion, but they could be a little much.

I agree pipes are a bit more elegant, and certainly there is a ton of diversity to the pipe smoking experience!

I'm pretty new too, hope to enjoy learning with ya
