Starting to Get Obsessed
Hello and welcome from West Virginia. I would recommend that you take it slow on the pipe purchasing and buy 1oz. samples with the tobacco. You can only smoke one pipe at a time and if you start with samples you won't have a lot of tobacco laying around that you might not care for.
I am a week in, and that is my plan. Slow and steady. I started with a cheap-o pipe from Amazon, and I think I am going to set out to find a quality pipe around $100 this week, and a couple of sample blends as well!

Agreed. I've been fortunate to have 2 pipe smoking friends who've let me sample from their tobacco stash. Some things, like Peterson Standard Mixture, were an instant hit. It also allowed me to determine some things that I really don't care for (e.g., deertongue). Already being familiar with the idea of aging cigars, I'm drawn to cellaring and may look at that with the blends that struck a chord with me.
