I was a collector of things, and was always interested in pipes!
I can remember actually buying my first cob with my grandfather off of a vintage cardboard display from a kitschy store in Cooperstown, NY! He also bought me a clay pipe in Plymouth, MA while we were there on a day trip, and an antler pipe from a Native American gift shop in Western NY.
I also added a couple of briars from a garage sale free pile, which was how my Father was making money at the time.
That's awesome! You'll need to show these pipes that have such good history.

Hey there, pipe smoker from upstate New York, just joining the forum.
I first smoked a pipe around 7-8 years ago, started with captain black original and a couple of pipes I had since I was a child. I’m just looking to expand my involvement in the hobby at the moment.
I enjoy English blends and currently a meerschaum is my go to pipe.

If you want to say hi, let me know if you remember how you started with a pipe!
Hey Pecos! I first started with a pipe last year, after trying my hand at carving a few. At first I thought they just looked cool, but now I am enjoying the complexities of flavor from different tobaccos. Still very new!

Bold choice, make some pipes and then decide if you want to smoke them. I like it!
It actually sounds similar to something I did..

Before I started smoking, I collected them. I had a plastic one from a flea market that had a metal insert that I decided wasn’t up to my standards. So when I was 13-14 y/o I carved a bowl from a black walnut burl, put the stem on from the plastic pipe, and threw the junk bowl away!

We think with the same mind! I see your pipes and they are lovely. I made a few clay pipes back in high school art class, but for some reason, the teacher wasn’t alright with my firing them in the school kiln. Something about being too young to smoke or some nonsense like that. I particularly like the briar on the right. It has a great sheen to it.

Haha! That sounds about right!

As for that briar, I waxed it a couple of years ago to give it some new life, glad you could tell :)

Welcome from the Pacific NW. Nice lil starter set there. ;)
My grandfather smoked a pipe and since i had already been smoking cigars for a couple years i gave it a go. Next thing i knew i was buying restoration projects on ebay and flipping them - a few at a time - for more interesting pipes and the rest is history...

Thank you! The four pictured are actually pipes that I no longer smoke, but they have some history with me so I can’t quite let them go.

I’ve always wanted to get lucky on an eBay lot, but the bid always seems to favor someone with deeper pockets… I wonder if you’ve been my competition this whole time🤔

I'm cheap, so no threat here. I'm also a poker player, so take that with a grain of salt. 😎
The way to 'get lucky' is to keep the bids low and often. I lose 90% of the bids i cast and offers i make, but the ones that do come through are always a good deal. ;)
