Several deactivated firearms used in the James Bond franchise have been stolen. No doubt Q will come up with something until they are returned.

I particularly like the chrome revolver......apparently a one off!

Jay ?

Ah... excuse me. Not to nitpick...but that is not a Walther PPK .380 pistol. The thumbnail picture is some kind of large .38 or 357 revolver. Ruger Superhawk?

Judging by the cylinder release the revolver is a Smith & Wesson.

I'm not sure what they mean by their statement "The Magnum is the only gun in the entire world entirely finished in chrome". There are many other guns finished in chrome in this world. Maybe they meant the collection?

Shanez, I though that a little odd too.

There's some discussion either in or around the earlier movies about the light .380 caliber for such intense assignments as portrayed in the Bond movies, so apparently they upgraded James to a heavier ammo. In the recent movie "The Irishman," about a fictionalized mob hit man who is portrayed as the Jimmy Hoffa assassin on a very inside job, in an earlier hit he is shown selecting out other weapons and choosing a .32, which he says in voice-over, is often described as a woman's gun. Since he needs to have two weapons, an extra for a back-up, he decides that's what's needed, and he hits his man in a restaurant at a big family (actual family) party. At one time, the mob was into .22's. At least the movie does illustrate how useless the whole murderous process is, shows a mobster who was hit because he visited the courthouse. They assumed he was snitching, and later it turned out (and the mob believed) it had been some kind of ordinary business a person might do at the courthouse. So, as the voice over says, bad hit. The thumbnail looks like a Ruger to me.

Bearing in mind- we are discussing a work of fiction...I was under the impression that due to the precise nature of Mr. Bond's work, he used the small caliber round and a small weapon profile for stealth reasons. "printing" in wetsuit or tux.

I read somewhere that a silencer is mainly effective with a .22.

Doc, I read somewhere that what we see and hear in Hollywood films is far from how an actual silencer sounds.

Not being a gun freak (they're frowned upon in these parts don't you know?) I really wouldn't know for certain but it did come from a reliable source....which I inconveniently forget ?

Suppressors definitely reduce decibel levels but yes Hollywood isn't even close. While there are what are called "sub-sonic" rounds most commercially available rounds will break the sound barrier and cause a distinct "crack" sound and this is at a minimum. Larger calibers can still be loud and hearing protection should be used with any caliber/round even when firing suppressed.

I'm still waiting on ATF paperwork for my suppressor which I'll be able to use interchangeably on my 6.5mm Creedmor precision rifle and my 5.56 full auto rifle. I report back with sounds after I get the thing.

Has anyone noticed that Bond never seems to run out of bullets. Given that he is meant to be a secret agent everyone seems to know the bloke. He walks into a hotel and the front desk says to him 'Your usual room Mr. Bond?'. I have always been amazed when he says 'My name is James Bond' and no one ever says to him 'So what!'.
