How to smoke a ribbon cut

Hi everyone! This is my first post on the site. I've got a problem I'm hoping my fellow brethren of the briar can help me with. I've recently acquired a tin of Dominican Glory by McClellend which is an extreme ribbon cut a la OTC/roll your own ciggy tobacco. I'm used to smoking Flake, Broken Flake, and regular pipe ribbon cuts and I can't seem to smoke this tobacco slowly. No matter what I do this stuff burns way too fast. I'm awaiting 5 tins of tobacco and am hoping to enjoy this blend in interim, so I don't have to break in to the cellar. Any and all suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Not familiar with the blend but sounds as though you are describing a shag cut.

Long strands of tobacco, fine and thin, almost stringy, 1/16" wide or there abouts?
If so,the shag cuts work best for me when tightly packed.

I enjoy this cut by compressing a bit into a ball or plug that will just fit into the chamber.

How big a plug and how tight to compress it prior to loading just takes some practice.

Ribbon is by far the easiest cut of tobacco to smoke. You're just overthinking the process.

ya sounds like my Drum baccy. pack it much tighter than u normally would and it'll be better. Nice thing bout that baccy, is u can mix others in with it. I put some in bottom of bowl, then a pinch of whatever, then more drum,then another pinch,etc, till bowl is full, many flavours come tru, One light does the entire bowl

That would have been my guess as well. Just pack it a bit tighter, but don't forget to check the draw before lighting up.

Thanks for the advice guys. Just to clarify, it's not shag like Drum. It's more like say Captain Black or American Spirit pouch tobacco.

I have quite a lot of ribbon tobacco's. Frank method works well for those. Bob Tate has a good video of it on the left, or just google for it on YouTube.

Success!! After packing my pipe MUCH tighter than usual I've finally been able to slow the weed down.
