The issue doesn't come up too much for me any more, so if I have a small quantity that got too dry I'll just add it back into the sealed jar having a large quantity. Never seem to notice a problem.

I never did follow up on my Rattray's rehydration. It took a some time for sure, but it worked eventually. I certainly won't try to hydrate that much tobacco in one bowl again though. I think it took nearly a week and a half to make any progress.

I have had mixed results with rehydrating tobacco. Generally, I have found that drier is better, making for a cooler smoke. But with aromatics, it usually takes out the flavor. So I had some Carter Hall that had dried out nicely and I tried some blackberry extract on a pouch with about 5 pipefuls. I had gotten some black raspberry made by Lane and it was OK but not wonderful. I tried my own recipe with the extract and it worked like a charm.
