I was at IPCPR (PCA now) back in 2015 or 2016 and Smoky Joes was there selling to retailers - I tried on a jacket from them it was magical. The non-velvet jackets they have are nice and the velvet ones were very snazzy. So I'm probably going to snag a few when I'm done dropping weight.

I've a velvet robe that I sometimes use when I smoke. It's great to just lounge in, especially in colder weather. If you have real velvet cotton (read: 100% cotton material), then yes, it can be excellent in protecting your shirt from tobacco odors. YMMV with cheaper poly blends.

Ok, I have read every post from this thread. On many occasions, I broke out into all out full on belly laughing! I am sympathetic to the plight of the original poster and his quandary of trying to mask the smell of tobacco smoke on his person. It makes me so glad that I am retired and spend most days at home or wherever I choose to roam.
That is not to say that I am not sensitive to the after life of smoke on my clothing or person. I try to be very sensitive to it with my wife. But, overall I smoke my pipe when I want to and do not worry about what other people think.
I spent 38 years in the US Army. When I joined the army in 1980 it was a quasi-smoking culture. I was the minority. I didn’t start smoking a pipe till many years later, although I did chew for several years.
All I can say is, good luck with the boss.

Don't forget how the pipe itself contributes!

Another anecdote on how well non-smokers detect the smell from an experience yesterday:

I have a pipe had been smoked, then well cleaned with a pipe-cleaner and water flushed, then rested for 3 days... It barely has a subtle smell. Smells good to me if I stick it right up to my nose.

I threw the pipe in my coat pocket and drove 30 minutes with her and the kids to a theatre. No smell detected.
While watching the play: I'm in a chair maybe 10 feet away from my wife (kids in the two seats between us). I pull the pipe out of my pocket for 20 seconds or less then put it back. She looks at me within a minute "Are you smoking in here? Why do I smell tobacco?".

I was surprised!

Uh-oh, sounds like your partner may be giving you grief about your favorite hobby!

Honestly, I dont think there is anything that you can do to get the smell out completely. If you smoke, you are going to have a certain smell. Fortunately, most people like the smell of pipes. Lots of people encouraged me to smoke because they liked the smell.

If you have facial hair, that could be a problem. I always found that the smoke attached more to my facial hair than my clothes so having some form of aftershave and mints handy is definitely a plus!
