I have several pipes I bought in the early 70's that have not been smoked in years. How is the best way to determine their value? They've been wrapped up in a box for over 20 years, and I can't smoke anything anymore
Edit: Moved to Pipe Talk, L.

Check for completed listings on Ebay, or someone here might be able to help you further if you post pictures or some nomenclature for us.
Why can't you smoke anymore?

You can look at "comps." That is, determine what you have, be honest with yourself about the condition, and see what similar estate pipes are going for on ebay and at the large e-tailers who sell them -- including sponsors of this site.
You can query some of those large e-tailer to see how they would price those pipes on consignment or for re-sale.
You can post descriptions and photos here and some very knowledgeable guys may be able to help.

What I would honestly recomend is to put them up on Ebay after getting the information on what those pipes are and listing them starting at like $20-40 each for auction with no buy it now price. They are worth whatever the final price is on them after 7 days, the more detailed (high resolution) pictures you take of them, and the more information you can find on them, the more they will sell for.

misize, like the other guys said, more info from you will bring out more info from us. Generally speaking, unless they have some collector value, or are Dunhills, used pipes are what they are : used pipes ..... and they will probably not be "worth" what one would pay for a new example, especially if they are still in production.

Monitoring eBay would be easiest for you (given that you are able to do so) unless, as mentioned either photo's and/or detailed descriptions are made available.
