How to clean a new Meer (powdery residue in the bowl and all through the drought hole and stem)?
If smoked with this "powdery leftover" is that OK?

You need to get some, there isn't anything else that will fit in the shank or stem for cleaning. I use craft style cleaners on meers, buy them at Michaels or Hobby Lobby. And you can smoke it right after cleaning.

There are thicker cleaners out there but meers tend to have tighter airways than briar pipes and I find that this kind works best

Thanks All very helpful. one more question.
Do pipes have filters, if not is that bad normal or better and how to tell if you have a filter?

Meets will normally not have filters, all other pipes may or may not have filters, the way to tell it to take the stem off and if it has a piece of paper or triangle wood in it then it's a filter pipe, as for it being better or worse that's all opinion that's why they make both. Also when buying a pipe online it should say if it had a filter, if not shoot an email to the site owner very one I have ever talked to in the pipe world is very friendly and willing to help.

Personally, I never use filters. I even remove them from my cobs. Some makers, like Savinelli, make pipes where you can remove the filter and insert an adapter to replace it. I just feel thet filters are messy and constrict the air flow for me.

The paper filters on most pipes serve to wick out moisture and some tar from the smoke. Brigham rock maple filters do the same. The balsa filters from Savinelli and the charcoal filters on Vauens actually filter the smoke before it gets to the mouth, much like cigarette filters. There are some other types, but the results are pretty much the same. As to which is better, that would be a personal decision. I haven't found anything other than the Peterson Dry System that was measurable different, and it does not use any filter.
