As a novice pipe smoker, you need to rely on the experience and expertise of your pipe elders. So here is a little video to help you learn about slow smoking:

OK... im going to go against the norm here... dont over think it and just smoke at whatever pace is comfortable... I smoke like a god damn beast, very fast! but I never get any tongue bite nor does my pipes get too hot either, I think it's because of my packing method... but I just cant smoke slow... nothing wrong with that and nothing wrong with going slow either... I think you should follow what Daytonsean said: find something to do while you smoke and you will find your natural cadence.
Now smoke a bowl dammit!

A lot of the things you have asked are different from person to person. As you smoke more and more you will find what is right for you. A lot of this hobby is so subjective. I find I smoke different for different tobaccos, pipes, weather, with matches, and with a lighter. Enjoy the experience.

I understand this, and I am just getting opinionated answers to form my own conclusion and mold them to myself
