But I do have a Roman amphitheatre 30 minutes away, and an even older Iron Age Fort just down the road.
They make our 13th Century Castles feel rather modern

I am the son of an airline employee so travel has always been a part of my life. And yet, I've never visited Rome. So I finally booked a trip to Italy, with stops in Rome and Florence. That was in January 2020. Then everything shut down. My tickets and reservations were all refunded.
So yeah, Rome and Florence are still on my bucket list.

Almost never. And I live near Hadrian's Wall where Roman history is in your face.
I'm not a fan of empires in general and the Roman period in particular. Where others see innovators and engineers, I see ruthless militaristic autocrats with barbaric beliefs and practices and pretty revolting personal habits.
