A few months ago, someone posted a formula in regards to how much tobacco you will need to last a life time. They broke it down by how many grams per bowl and how many bowls a day. If that person could post it again I would really appreciate it. I didn't write it down and need to. I am trying to figure out how much I will need to last the next 30 years.

I know That I average 76 bowls per 8oz bag of Penzance, so 365 days per year smoking one bowl in the evenings like I normally do .....take 365 divided by 76 bowls equals 4.802 bags per year. So if I live to be my Fathers age at his death of 85, then I've got maybe 29 years left in this Psycho World. 29 years consuming 4.8 bags/year means I need to cellar away 139 bags 8O
Holy sh*t, that means I need to buy 124 more bags quickly at $30.00 for a total of $3,720.00
I don't think so at this point

I smoke 5-6 bowls a day so I need to know how many grams per bowl and then multiply that out. I have around 27 pounds in the cellar now but I know I am going to need a hell of a lot more. Considering I was spending 2600.00 a year on cigarettes, at 60 dollars a pound that means I can buy 43 pounds a year and not spend anymore. If I told you what I spent on cigars back in my hey day you would think I am insane.

Dropping 4k on tobacco to last the rest of your life... That's not a whole lot when we consider how much our wives' engagement ring costs eh? lol
My girlfriend was showing me rings she liked that were in the 8k range. Which I think is reasonable. She's more into natural saphires with small diamonds around to accent.

If We say you smoke 4grams per bowl, and 6 bowls per day, you'll be smoking 19.5 lbs a year.

So 19 pounds a year times 80 a pound( I am figuring high for a lot of tins) = 1520.00 a year times 30 years = 45,600.00 at today's prices. Looks like I will need to do some serious stocking up to get the quantity I will need. There are 6 blends that I buy in bulk, 3 go for 60 a pound and 3 go for 35. I don't know why many of my favorites have to come only in tins, that kind of sucks. There were years when I smoking 15k worth of cigars a year so compared to that, pipe tobacco is still a hell of a bargain.

Harris, it's funny that everything seems cheap when you compare it to what you once spent on cigars. I remember once burning through a whole box of Cohiba Robustos over a weekend. If only I had invested that money more wisely. Was tasty though

Mike, it was fun blowing though boxes of Cohiba's and Trinidads and all the other great Cubans, but you are right, the money could have been spent more wisely. I think of all the pipes I would have right now and those last forever. That is the problem with cigars, you don't own them, just rent em.

4grams per bowl, and 6 bowls per day,
Those are BIG bowls. In terms of flakes I smoke, for example, that's a whole slice of PS Luxury Navy Flake, or two slices of Peterson Irish Flake, or 2 1/2 coins of Bullseye Flake PER BOWL, about the capacity of a 05 series Pete pipe. Ready-cut mixtures YMMV depending on how you pack.

Better to have more than less. lol
The initial thread estimated 3g per bowl. But I say it's better to slightly overestimate, as you'll end up giving away some of the tobacco to fiends, strangers, etc.
But yes they are larger bowls.

It usually takes 2-3 flakes of Bulls eye to load most of my pipes, so I think 4 grams is probably pretty accurate. Most of my bowls are group 5,6 and ODA.

Thanks lornoble, I knew I had asked the question before and now I am smoking more than I did when I asked. It comes down to me investing a good chunk of dough to get where I want to be. I am hoping I have a few years before the feds go after the online retailers and start making them charge us the state tobacco tax. I am definitely going to save these formulas in a word doc so I don't have to ask again in another few months.

Just multiply how much you smoke a month by 36. For me it would be at least 18 pounds. So if I were to put away 30 years of tobacco to age, It would be 20 lbs. Were you planning to die after 30 years?
