A really stupid amount, like hundreds and hundreds. That way I don't have to give a rip about the FDA, I've got nicely aged weed when I get around to it, and certified unobtanium for trading, swapping and gouging.

About 15 tins open placed in jars, I never seem to smoke the same blend twice in a row.
About 8 pounds bulk in jars, around 50 tins in the cellar getting mellow.

Thanks, I had a concern when I have eight tins and opened half of them.

I really feel very comfortable now.

Well, surely you do give a rip for us unfortunates who'll have to deal with the aftermath of government interference! At least, in person you seem like a caring guy.....!
Regards,
J

Hi John,
Well...sorta. I don't have to give a rip because I took heed of the Cassandras and started stocking up, a bit at a time, years ago. I figure that if a thick skulled guy like me can do it, so can others. Besides, when I started smoking a pipe we only had a few choices and didn't fell cheated.
But I do care greatly about my friends who have been screwed by this absurdly ignorant FDA regulation and have written to my congressmen and others about it.
If there's a defense fund I'll happily donate to it.

I have about 50 lbs in tins and 72 4oz mason jars with about 40 blends. Even with the FDA nightmare I'll be able to smoke older blends that I have always loved.

Me too, and future generations that I would rather have smoking pipes and cigars than cigarettes and those horrible vapor things.

Thanks, Jesse. Not quite a defense fund, but you'll get the picture! PayPal accepted! It's the "jpmcwjr tobacco acquisition sinking fund" c/o Goldman, Sachs, NYC, NY........

133 tins unopened, 21 bulk tobaccos in amounts from 2oz to one pound, and 9 open tins. I have been slacking off lately.

Not counting the unopened tins or mason jars in the cellar, I typically have about 30 blends in easy to access mason jars or open tins at any given time. Sometimes more, sometimes less. But less than 10 blends to choose from would not currently keep me happy. Although, I do find myself slowly narrowing my options over time. We'll see if that trend continues.

I always have these intentions, and have even gone through my opened blends to put some of them away to age for a while. I then try to convince myself - nothing new until I've made it through some of these other opened blends. Inevitably, though, I end up with 30+ open.. some from the B&M, some from trades... I have no self control, really.
*sigh*

Tins are great, but sometimes bulk is where it's at. Just put in an order for another pound of Old Joe Krantz. Next to Royal Yacht, this is my favorite blend.

I've got like 70 tins open. I keep getting a new tin in. Open it up and smoke a few bowls then move onto the next new tin.
I've got 24 unopened tins of blends I haven't even yet still sitting on my pipe table. I keep telling myself that I'm not going to open them until I finish 4 or 5 of my other jars. What I should have done was not buy anymore mason jars so I'm forced to finish the ones I have.
My thinking was I would find a few blends I love and stock pile those but there is a never ending list of tobacco to try.
I did stock pile a few blends but that will keep growing as well.

In multiple choice questions, my favorite answer is usually "all of the above". (Un)fortunately, in this case, especially since Pec and C'master haven't kicked in yet, my hoard (hesitate to term it a collection, since it is rather random) just might exceed the sum total of respondees so far. As for the total number of blends, I am now needing to revisit my poor abused Excel to add more worksheets, since my last few TADs will push my count over 1500. All of these FDA-inspired introductions have kicked my (ab)normal TAD into the next orbit. Also, the closing of blenders like Grant's, GQ, Chief Catoonah, and P&W have pushed me into ordering spreads of their blends to assess whether I want/need to load up on some. Another unhelpful factor is the change in the murky EU/UK regulations which may put some of the fine blenders there in a poorer position to ship to me in the US.
My previous project was to demote enough of my open blends (not all of the 1500 have been popped yet) out of the Top200 Cellar. I'm having such limited success, exacerbated by the plethora of new FDA-inspired blends, that by New Year's Resolution time, I need to either admit defeat and raise the Cellar ceiling from 200 to maybe 250 or even 300. As it is, my Top200 has 288 inhabitants, each of which has a dozen or more tins, or pounds representing them. Now, to be fair, few of my Cellar residents manifest in Peckian proportions: only a few blends have more than 5 lbs. In effect, I am trying to get down to a rotation of 200, or whatever ceiling I manage to drop down to.
It's a tough job, but someone has to do it...
