That's just 2.5 million surveyed! How many here have answered a pipe smoking survey? If they surveyguess 2.5 million, its probably double that!

Don't feel bad. One time I was all, "Why would you put alcohol in the freezer? Wouldn't it dilute when you thaw it?" before I remembered the freezing point of alcohol is far lower than anything your average freezer can reach.

5 million is still a tiny number. I didn't research the methodology for the 2.5 million. Frankly, I could not care less how many smoke what, as long as there are enough of them to support the industry. At least for a few more years.

I would be interested to know what country has the highest % of pipe smokers.
We will never know the true numbers, but that would be a relative figure that might be worth while?

The numbers seems way too high given that it's a rarity to see anyone smoking a pipe on the street. Also no one I know smokes the pipe, either.

I suspect the number is reasonably close to the mark. Given that a large number of the forum's members only smoke at home, more than a few only smoke a few times a week, I'm not at all surprised that I so infrequently see another pipe smoker when I'm out and about.
In the study I cited earlier I did not research to find what they used as a definition of a pipe smoker. I wouldn't consider someone who smokes less than a bowl a day a smoker, hobbyist maybe, smoker no. Pipe dabbler?

I am definitely concerned how many smoke for I would like to enjoy my hobby by having enough tobacco to do so without an extreme hassle which could be brought about by increased taxation and possible prohibition. These states of oppression will come if our numbers dwindle and we allow ourselves to be selfish and not think of others who would share our interest through education and exposure to this fine art/indulgence.
