How many lbs should 3 bowls a day consume in a year? I figure 6-7lbs at ~10 bowls an oz. What do you figure for investing in your cellar?

Im in a place where the only pipe tobacco I get is brought to me by family or friends when they visit, and limited by a lb per person each trip. Im tryna plan ahead for hard times to come. Currently have about 15lbs I think.

This is to general, it seems everyone is assuming a size of the chamber.

This is going to greatly depend on chamber size, how much, and how fast you smoke.

While it might be fair to assume, that when it comes to pipe sizes, most people do seem to smoke pretty similar sized chambers, around the 20-25mm wide, and 40-45mm deep, you could be someone that either smokes much smaller, or larger.

In time, you will be able to gauge this better for yourself.

This is a pipe I smoke often, the depth is 29mm and 17mm wide. I can’t imagine how long it would take to smoke a pound, but it would be an insane amount of time.

Great thread! Thanks everyone for the posts. I'm stumped on this question, personally. Longevity--absolutely clueless :)! Size of bowl--changes a few times each week--some days I feel like mid-sized bowls (size 3 or 4). Somedays--I don't want to fill as often or I want a long smoke of a particular flavor--and I'll grab a bowl with 1.5" - 2" in depth, as long as my clenching jaws and gums are up to it LOL! Some days, I mix up the size as the day and night progress. If the day holds errands to Brookshire's, gas station, etc.--I'll take a bowl with me (I've smoked several times while grocery shopping in Brookeshire's :) but often stick the pipe in my pocket if I think of it while doing errands. Smoke less on those days. Heading into work, far less--no smoking except in the car to and from :). Several tubs of mylar bagged leaf now appears excessive these days but that doesn't keep me from buying more on the rare occasion :)

It does seem awful difficult to gauge. I loom at my stash and figure ive enough to last a lifetime. Then i do the math and find ive only a few yrs worth maybe, if im smoking consistently.

Thing is, the last few yrs ive been using snus more often and hardly pick up a pipe. But when im out of snus (cant get it in my country) i then obsess over the pipe.

Im currently trying to just smoke and leave the snus behind. I camt moderate myself at all, and end up having my lip packed every waking minute... Which im just assuming is probably worse for my health than a few bowls a day.

You can do the math for your 'needs' but I'd stick with maxing out the tabac allotment your friends and family can bring per visit for as long as you can! And of course, it's never going to be cheaper or more available than it is now... I presume you can take your 'stash' with you if you ever move from where you are.

I am concerned about fire, flooding, or theft when considering such massive investments... I wonder if burying it in water tight containers would be feasible?

Who makes that pipe? I know I just saw that same model somewhere in a different shape I think. It's one of those artisan carvers, right? Or is it a Tsuge?
