I just noticed a couple of Mac Baren tins that are dated. I checked several tins and most of the Mac Baren's I have are not dated.
Not Dated:
- Mixture Scottish Blend

- Club Blend

- Navy Flake

- Latakia Blend
Dated Tins:
- HH Mature Virginia (September 2007)

- HH Vintage Syrian (October 2008)

Incidentally, when I mentioned that I love Vintage Syrian at the Mac Baren booth, the rep gave me a tin and that tin is dated May 2009.
The two tins pictured above were bought at the same B&M (House of Pipes & Cigars, St. Pete FL) at the same time and they are about a year apart. As we discussed in a thread somewhere (maybe this one), tobacco tins can possibly already have some age on them, and some can be sitting in a store for years.
Echoing Mate's sentiment, it would be neat if all tobacco manufacturers put dates on the packaging - just like wine.

It would be nice if there was a Standard
eg yyyy/mm/dd
so Tin with 2009/10/15 would be 15th Oct 2009.
I know USA likes mm/dd/yy format and UK likes dd/mm/yy format.
20 years or more ago this created havoc with computer systems, when there were only "Text and Numeric" fields. It was particularly hard to de-cypher dates and created major confusion in things like Banking and Insurance where dates are crytical
The yyyy/mm/dd format is considered International and is easy for sorting, time elapse calculations and other logic functions
If we could now get the manufacturers to use it

That's cool about the dates Kevin! I wonder if Mac Baren is going to start dating their tins now being that the HH Series are their newest blends.
That tin of Mature Virginia already has 2 years of age on it!

Sorry this is one time I have to disagree with you
Standardise on Date Format, and If it does not contain> 50% Latakia Issue Special Warning on label or dont sell it

Which is better for Cellaring
#1)
BR149220-M04321991_sm.jpg

or
#2)
BR365610-MQ2321990_sm.jpg

Seems to me that #2 would be more airtight, but #1 would be prone to rusting lid
BTW, I saw these that may be useful links ZIPLOCK BAGS

You could keep your favorite baccy next to your bedside, or turn your worst baccy in to an artistic statement
You could even get creative and use different coloured baccy to make a design like they do with sand

RE The third one will be for the antis to stick their finger in.
No let them use their tongues
That reminds me, when I lived in Australia, it was one of my g/fF brats birthday party, and a friend of hers came into house and began to play with my pipes.
Both my g/f and the visiting brats parents, got upset when I suggested that the if the little urchin, needed to keep occupied, she should insert her tongue in the socket.
Australia is 220 Volts
The Brats parents never let her visit our place again......... My what a great loss to me

I hear you pfinton111!

That is one of the things I love about pipe smoking. If you can wait for tobacco to age, it will taste great and be worth the wait. If you can't wait (like us, lol) it will still taste great and offer a nice, relaxing smoke anyway.

I've heard the stories of usable bits of pipe tobacco unearthed in Egyptian tombs. I'm not certain of the veracity of these reports but, just the fact that they get so much mileage, speaks clearly for the fact that, given the right conditions, a pound of good tobacco should last indefinitely.

The only blend I had any success with in aging (i.e., improvement) is McClelland

bulk 5100. Every other blend I tried didn't seem to change much after 6 mos. and

1 year. So now I follow Bob Tate's Mason jar storage system to preserve the hooch

without expecting it to improve to any noticeable degree.
