in other words, don't dry out your tobacco just because someone else says you should...do what you think tastes best, and to me, that means not air drying it.
Heh. Don't not dry it because someone else said that's what you should not do.
The OP is looking for ways to get to the best taste.

Someone once told me he packs a bowl in the evening and smoked it the next day. He said he would give the bowl a charring light if the tobacco was to moist and let it go out before retiring to bed. His logic was it would dry out the tobacco on the top of the bowl enough to get a good light to it. Then the tobacco farther down was less dry and had retained the flavor. Seems to work ok? I do this when preparing for fishing the next day. I'll pack a bowl, put a wind cap on and put it in my jacket or bag with my zippo. Not sure if it gives a better smoke but it doesn't seem to make it any less enjoyable?
