I started almost exactly 23 years ago, wanting something a little different to accompany my buddies on smoke breaks. Despite all that time, I still have much to learn.

I’ve smoked cigars since I was 16. 11 years ago when I was in college a buddy and I drove to a smokers friendly 30 miles away and picked up cheap pipes and aromatics. I tried off and on for a year and couldn’t get the hang of it. In 2019 I went back to pipe tobacco and it’s by far my favorite.
Since 2020 - COVID news made me want to enjoy things and be alone with my thoughts, something that wasn’t a cell phone. I was 31 or 32 then.
Started in college because I admired the Dean of Students' pipe smoking. He put me on the the late great Burlington Arcade which I smoked for a decade. Marriage, city life, hectic job, etc. - pipes faded into background.
Some 50 years later, I found the box where my originals were stored, and living in the country then, what better than to resume?
My stand by tobacco had ceased production eons ago, so came here after a while to broaden my knowledge and find new tobaccos.

I started a few months ago at 29. I smoke for nicotine and enjoyment. I used to smoke cigarettes.
6, 50, one day I just felt like smoking a pipe.
Started at age 16, some 58 years ago. As a Sherlock Holmes fan it seemed a natural thing to do. Also my Dad occasionally smoked his pipes. I was very impressed finding a tin he kept old washers and screws in that said it was a custom blend for him. The idea of a "bespoke" blend seemed very elegant.
Smoked cigarettes and dipped since I was a youngster. However, 2015 I decided to stop smoking cigarettes & chew for the pipe…So going on 9 years now. I’m 50 in February, and I smoke a pipe for nicotine, contemplation & relaxation.

Around 50 years. Plus ocasional cigarettes and every night postprandial cigar.
Stationed at Fort Hood in the early 80s and a buddy and I wander to the Waco Mall. Ran across the tobacco shop. Looked at each other and both said, "You know, I always wanted to try smoking a pipe". Left an hour later with a Peterson and an aromatic sampler each. So roughly 40 years.
Since 1969 with a few breaks. In high school, I worked at a small neighborhood bookstore, owned by a pipe smoker, so I took up the pipe, too. I mostly smoked Balkan Sobranie, MacBarans Plum Cake, Symphony, and a bunch of house blends from a store in Hackensack, NJ.
Started with cigars around 1991, pipe in 1993 for a change of pace, slowed things down a lot in 2002 after my father died from lung cancer, dove back in with regularity about three or four years ago when my friend got into cigars and pipes.
Since age 14, over 40 years ago. Loved the smell and taste of pipe tobacco, and my grandfather smoked a pipe which I am sure made me want to try it. Smoked cigarello's often then as well, such as Swisher Sweets and Backwoods. Never liked cigarettes, only bought a few packs in my life. Went to mainly cigars for awhile because they are easy in college.
Started in with pipes more during medical school and residency, Nearly quit smoking when I had kids old enough to notice and became a closet cigar and Pipe smoker for years, smoking mostly at motorcycle events.
When the kids grew up, I started up again with pipes in earnest. Now I rarely smoke cigars and smoke pipes nearly daily depending upon my work schedule.

50+ years. Started because it made me look smarter than I am and it gave me something to do when I was bored.
Off and on for about 40 years, although I've been smoking a pipe more the past year since quitting the cigs.
