He's an English Cocker Spaniel, and he's a giant floof. It's almost his first birthday! Cockers are double-coat dogs, and he's currently shedding his winter coat and puppy coat. It's almost manageable, but it's still everywhere.
my cat does that bicoat thing too. This is the time of year I vacuum and sweep up a mass of hair that seems physically impossible to come from him (unless he's all fur and doesn't have bones or guts just really dense hair and really squishy hair.
Looks like a real sweet little guy by the way.

Thanks! He's a sweet puppy. It's my second English Cocker and my wife's 5th. We found our breed.

We have all kinds of grooming tools, and one of the most effective is called a Mars Coat King. I'll pull off enough fur to make another dog, and he just looks combed. We'll get there.

Up to a week, as long as it didn't accumulate some sawdust or cat hair or other visible detritus.

Aros and heavily cased blends are the worst for this, more "natural" Virginia blends are the best, IMO. I like English blends that have sat for a while, but a lot of people dislike them.
Thanks for the breakdown of blends, that’s very helpful! I haven’t been much of a Virginia smoker in the past, but recently bought a couple bulk blends to try. That may need to be what I primarily smoke during this phase of life.

Thanks for all the feedback. Sounds like finishing a bowl within a week is the norm for most. I’ve got a cat and a lab who sheds like crazy, but thankfully have yet to find any of their hair in a bowl - something to watch out for!

I've come back to a bowl after a few days, sometimes on rare occasion a few weeks (Black XX) and the tobacco still tasted fine. Generally, I like to finish my pipe in one sitting or at most, come back an hour or so later. If I have one that's been sitting for a bit longer, I'll light, take a few puffs and gauge the taste. If it tastes okay I'll proceed, if not, I'll dump it and start anew.

Depends on the blend. When I find a pipe that for some strange reason of circumstances I haven’t finished…. if it is a burley, latakia, or… an aromatic, I just dump it out. But, if it seems like a Virginia dominant blend, I enjoy smoking it to see if I can identify what blend it was that I was smoking when whatever happened that interrupted that smoke. Doesn’t seem to have an expiration on how long it will last to me. Actually the longer the better, to dry it out some. YMMV

Personally I think re-lighting a bowl that’s sat more than 30min or so tastes horrid. I’m also pretty anal about cleaning my pipes at the end of the day. So I don’t tend to leave half smoked pipes laying around, I smoke em to the bottom clean em and put em away. If I think I won’t have time to finish a pipe I smoke a small pipe or a meerschaum. I also think re-lighting a cigar that’s been out for more than a few minutes tastes like ass.

The only exception to this for me is breaking in a new briar. I will smoke just bottom 1/3 of the pipe until it’s caked to my liking, the first couple bottom 1/3rds of a new pipe might take me all day to smoke. I’ll light it gently and take few puffs and set back down and let it go out, pick it a while later rinse & repeat until there’s nothing left but ash never letting the pipe even get warm.
