Pack, smoke, empty, repeat. Works for me.

I love it! While I try to take very reasonable care of my pipes, I'm not OCD about it and do realize that with regular use they are bound to get--- USED.

To me, a pipe is a tool.

I look after them and clean them etc, but if they get dinged that's fine.

They were bought to be used.

My pipes are pampered. My cobs are treated with the same dignity as my expensive pipes.

I like didimauw's pipe!

I don't baby any of them, pipe cleaner through them every other smoke..or so.

Except for maybe 2.

I love my cobs because I lite them with a cigar torch. & they look like it. No maintenance there, just light & smoke & enjoy.

Save for a carbonized bowl interior and the odd tooth mark, my pipes tend to look like new. I take very good care of my pipes, as I see them as lifetime investments, which should serve me well till they put me in the ground, then they shall serve another, such is their purpose.

Treat them all the same. Like a hunk of wood/cob that holds burning tobacco. I don't pamper or baby them ... of course I also don't own a single pipe worth more than about $80
My work pipes (MM legends) I suppose get treated a little worse. I hold them with dirty greasy hands a lot and bang them out on the heel of my shoe constantly. That's about the only difference.

I seemingly treat them better than myself. I keep them clean, well fed, exercised, and in good shape. Things I can't always say of myself.

I have my Pristine Favorites that I baby and coddle with princess hands... and then my yard beaters and slut cobs that I abuse the hell out of.

Nothing in between? I ask because I have a spectrum of pipes from beaters to almost-collector's-items. But I treat the innards about the same.

Well... yes. My in-between pipes I handle with care... but not to the extent that I baby my favorites.

Two schools of thought here: Kid glove care right on top of everything to the letter keeping them looking like new because they are seen as an investment, and normal care keeping them in good shape because they will last a lifetime or nearly so that way anyway!
Unless I plan on passing my pipes down to my children, all I need a pipe to do is outlast me.
Here is a pipe I am the original owner of and have smoked for 45 years with no special care at all. Just the usual cleaning. How is it holding up? I think it has about another 290 years life left to it! Any more care I give it is purely for cosmetic reasons only and will not appreciably extend the life of the pipe! Nuff said.

I've had nearly all my pipes for some years, modest or otherwise, and I've gotten to like them. Most of them have their own story, however unexciting. I'm pretty good about keeping them all well-cleaned and cared for, even the beater briars, even the cobs.
I do see a PAD episode in the future, but I try to treat my current collection (admittedly mostly beaters) like they're all the pipes I'll ever have.

all those words, but no details on the pipe?
It's a Preben Holm Ben Wade Hand Model I bought in the early '70's. Second pipe I bought. Paid $45 for it in a small tobacco shop. First pipe was a Pete. Paid $5 for that. I gave the Pete to a friend long ago but this BW remains my favorite freehand.
