Everything they say about the quality of Castello’s aged briar is true so far as keeping a pipe burning.
Less about the quality if the pipe and more about how it was packed. I've always sat a pipe down to go check mail, make coffee, or other tasks and come back to it ready to smoke with no need of relighting.

If you ever do cigars, just don't copy John Astin's Gomez Addams character and place the lit cigar back into the breast pocket you took it out of.

I've never heard anyone who worked on that show speak about that bit of costume trickery, was the pocket holding a metal insert or other gimmick to protect the actor?

I put a wind cap on top as some others mentioned. Then I just set it down somewhere until I’m ready to smoke it again. The wind cap helps if the pipe ever falls over etc. keeps everything inside.

you either have much better grocery store staff than me or I'm doing something wrong. This just seems impossible.
I do the same all the time. There's no visible smoking going on so what are they going to say, that I smell like tobacco...?

I once had a fresh unlit pipe in my mouth in an airport, waiting for my bags to come out, a security guy came to me and said in a very stern voice "It's illegal to smoke here!". I replied "I know, I am not smoking".

After my last draw I will tamp it down and put it in my pocket or wherever, haven’t had any issues yet and the relight is smooth.

I have a couple of t-shirts with many small holes in them, in the chest and stomach areas. Some are from the cat kneading their claws into me, but mostly they come from days I was being a bit careless in tamping a just-lit pipe, dragging coals and bits of tobacco out of the bowl on the top of the tamper's "foot" when I lift it out.

If I am outside and I have to stop and store for a little bit I just leave it go down and put a cork.
However, my experience is that when leaving off for more than 10 min when relighting the taste won't be the same, it is always appreciably dull and getting a cigarette undertone, so I really try not to stop and store it.
