I'd stay away for a while, or but Jose Piedras for some time. Most counterfeits sold in the states are very obvious. That's not the problem, however. Cuban quality control has been questionable for many years and with them preparing for US consumption, will take a nose dive. Wait, don't rush.

If someone offers you a 5 pack of Genuine Cuban Cigars in a small wooden box with a sliding plastic lid, then they are fake. A lot of friends have gone to Cozumel and bought those thinking they were real Cubans but they were just fakes. You can also tell by the quality of the labels.

Guess I shouldn't believe that Ole and Sven are selling real Cubans out of the back of their pickup at the Lutheran church; was wondering if cigars were supposed to smell of lutefisk!

Or, go to your local J&R or Tinder Box and buy a really good Dominican, and you may well get a really good Dominican. It won't be cheap, but it won't be fake.

The result shown in the image below would be indicative of a fake Cuban cigar:

(I believe that this one was sold by The Johnson Smith Company of Racine, Wisconsin).
