How do You Carry on Conversation while Smoking?

I don't. I haven't figured this one out. Tried talking with pipe clenched. Not good. Tried taking it out, too much interference with cadence. Long conversation is even worse, I have to relight. So I just refuse to carry any polite conversation when I'm smoking. It just surprise me that so many people are looking for pipe clubs. You guys have club secrets on how to talk? I mean, I can still let out impolite phrase or two with pipe clenched like "No Trespassing!!!" or "Fuck!!!" or other four letter words.

I would just relight whenever required.

I generally clench until I want to make a point or emphasize something. Then I point with my pipe..

Make the conversation the priority. If it requires 20 relights, so be it. Being able to smoke your pipe while hanging with other people is a great thing, don't blow it.

Lots of relights. If that's too high a price to pay to have a conversation, maybe you need to find more interesting people to talk to.

Clenching, talking, and working with my hands is a natural act and I can do all three at the same time. I've always been amazed that some people have difficulty clenching and talking as the same time. Try this. Drawn in on your pipe while breathing out with your nose. That is to say, use your nose for breathing and your mouth for smoking. Once you can do that, you should be able to talk and clench at the same time.

I have a couple of bowls with a mate every few weeks.
Occasional companionable silence, but usually free-flowing conversation.
Absolutely no problems.

I carry on a conversation the usual way, by speaking. Clenched pipe, pipe in hand, doesn't really make that much of a difference. Depending on the blend I may have more relights, or not.
I've just been doing it for years, so I don't much think about it.

I would post one of my videos but they've been on here a thousand times. I can talk while smoking, but why the hell would I want to? I couldn't imagine giving up smoking time to be social. There are five other pipe smokers where I work and if pipes are lit, the most noticeable form of communication is the occasional nod.

Talking slows my cadence, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing. Also, a good conversationalist spends a fair amount of time listening, which is a perfect time for keeping the ember alive. I have noticed I tend to use my pipe as a prop: pointing, gesturing, thinking...all enhancements imho.

I usually respond with monosyllabic words. My pipe just stays lit without much attention. If it goes cold, I relight without a thought. I smoke the pipe. It's not in control. I simply enjoy the smoke and do what's necessary, relight, tamp or. dump and reload as required. I'm not in competition with the pipe or, other smokers for that matter.

I ended up smoking cigarettes or a cigar. But I would rather have pipe. A lot of us compare certain blends with good steak. Compare to a cig or a cigar, pipe smoke definitely is like a 1.5" thick porterhouse.

I've been spending the week with my dad, who is also an avid pipe smoker. We both smoke and talk simultaneously for hours at a time. We thoroughly enjoy our conversations and smoking. I don't believe we ever need to relight . I couldn't imagine anything more wasteful than sitting in a room with other smokers not saying a thing.
