I have been trying to get my bestfriend's little brother that smokes PA cigars and Black & Milds. That he would be better off $ wise to buy a pipe and some tobacco. He doesn't seem to want to belive me. I can't get him to look up the prices or the fact that if he loves those blends so much that he could even still buy tubs or pouches of the same tobacco for way less. He says "I'm not trying to hurry up and look like a old man like you!" I'm the only young pipe smoker he's ever seen. He doesn't want to realize that his cigars are filled with pipe tobacco just like my bowl and I don't spent $6 a pk. for 5 cigars that only last him 1.5 days. He's seen that my bowl burns slower that his tobacco by product paper rolled cigar. Not to mention that he unpacks them to remove one of the papers then repacks them because their packed to tight. Wouldn't you fellows say he's pretty stupid? I'm trying to get him to check out pipesmagazine and join the league of true pipe smokers. I'm not trying to put middltons out of bussiness, just enlighten a freind. On how to save money and find a whole new world of flavors since he loves all of the flavors of pipe tobacco cigars. It can't be just me don't you think it would be cheaper and more enjoyable for him in the long run?

That was my boat a couple weeks ago. never really enjoyed black n milds in the first place. better than nothing, but they were always so damn dry.... Anyway, aside from the smirks i get from my step mother, most everyone else I've talked to thinks its cool. "Man, that's some serious 'Dont give a excrement' there man." Ultimately, I think your best hope is to just keep at it. Dont push too hard though, or you'll do more harm than good. In the end it really is a personal choice though

Keep in mind that some people just never will take to it. I had a buddy I was trying to get into pipes, offa cigs, and he bought a pipe and smoked it for a while...and then stopped. Now he just smokes cigarettes.

I haven't been able to convince any of my cigar, cigarette smoking

friends to switch to a pipe.

Last Christmas, I gave 3 friends each a corncob, Prince Albert and

a Czech tool. I haven't seen any of them smoke the pipe since I gave

them the gifts.

It sounds to me like Oldjazzlover's friend smokes the cigars as much for image, and maybe convenience, as anything else.

Perhaps silent example is the best course of action. I sure as heck wouldn't want a cigar smoker nagging me because he

thinks my pipes are less convenient than cigars.

Cortez the cigars he smokes are pipe tobacco filled cigars made by Middltons, some of them PA filled. He just doesn't seem to want to understand that it would be less expensive and more enjoyable in a pipe. I've smoked them and a pouch or tub of PA taste much better, not stale and dry. Thanks for the suggestions!

 Snatch his cigar from his mouth then crumble it up before his eyes into the cheapest pipe you can find then give back to him . Make sure it is his last cigar first .

:rofl:I like that idea, I'd like to try it one day. However I moved back to FL. and he still lives in Ohio. I still talk to him and his brother all of the time. His nephews are my godsons. If he hasn't wanted to listen before I make it up there the end of next month, I'm gonna give his suggestion a try but I think I'll pack the bowl with some PA and see if he notices the difference that I did between the two.

The first tobacco products I somewhat enjoyed smoking were the Captain Black mini cigars filled with pipe tobacco, very common up here in Canada. They were enjoyable for a minute or two, but quickly degenerated to an acrid taste and didn't last kissing time. I loved the initial flavours and aromas, though. I wanted something cheaper, less prone to bitterness and with some staying power - led me straight to Captain Black pipe tobacco and now here I am, leagues away from my original station... :) I wish somebody had to suggest the pipe to me - unfortunately some of us are hardheaded creatures of habit. Try the free pipe and tobacco trick; if that doesn't work, nothing will. There is a stigma attached to pipes in my circles, for whatever reason - everyone thinks it is either eccentric, dirty, or the realm of ancients... Shows what they know!

As has been said before i think the best bet is to buy a corncob, a small pouch of the tpbacco he normally smokes in the cigars and a tamper. Then send it to him along with some printed instructions of how to pack. If he wants to try it then he will. Don't force him too much though, i know i wouldn't be too happy if someone kept pressurizing me to try something. Maybe he likes the cigars and the convenience of them.
Just give him everything he needs to at least give the pipe a shot.
