I'm seeing some really high numbers. This is a rookie question, how long will tobacco keep?I tned to buy small amounts because I dont want it to go bad.
prettyinpink648, pipe tobacco will stay fresh for decades if stored properly. Vacuum sealed tins as well as bulks that are in properly sealed jars, need to be kept in a cool dark place.
mustanggt, what have you been loading up on? Just curious if we are going after the same types of blends.
Mr English, good for you, how many pounds of St James are you up to?
I'm probably sitting on about 3-4lbs cellar and a few opened or in ziploc for regular right now smoking. Planning on getting a few lbs of bulks and a case or three of jars with all the sweet christmas bonus money.
Thanks Cigarmaster. I only keep roughly 4-6 ounces at a time. So I see I need to invest in some Vacuum sealed tin and or jars and kept out of sun light. Got it! Thanks so much I'll definitly start making bigger purchases.
-cigrmaster 11.8 pounds according to my handy dandy iphone app. I have another three pounds or so set aside for smoking and is not counted in that.
For everyone else, it adds up over time. I have been at this for a good dozen years adding a few tins at a time and when the funds permit, more. The trick is to add more than you smoke, it took me a few years to get to that point.
And I thought I was doing good with 7 pounds of St James, lol. I have been focusing on tins and Stonehaven recently, I might have to make the call soon.
Mike, you made me do it. lol I just ordered 5 pounds of the St James at 58.60 per, I got a discount of 10% for ordering 5. That brings me to an even dozen with probably around 3/4 of a pound I am smoking out of. I figure if I was to smoke a bowl every other day, the 12 pounds gives me 10 years, if I smoke it every 4th day, 20 years. Still not enough. I figure I will order another 5 pounds next month or so and then I should have plenty.
Dang, cigrmaster! I think the most I have ever purchased at once was two pounds. I am thinking on getting another couple pounds when the funds permit and that will probably do it. I started smoking a pound from 2006 on Nov 26th and its not even half gone. That is about 95% of what I am smoking. There is a huge difference between the aged and fresh St. James Flake.
I've got about 8 pounds of Stonehaven and about the same amount of 3P's. Those make up my top three in my stash.
You boys are killing me with the St James flake stuff. I just smoked a bowl and it is so damn tasty. However when my wife came to kiss me she couldn't make it, too strong for her. It's out everywhere I look so am on the hunt to up my stash of it. I think some of you fellers are responsible for those out of stock notices on our favorite web sites. You snooze ya looze.
Mike, there is a big difference in the aged for sure. I have a couple of pounds that has almost 2 years on it the rest is fresh. Nice stash of Stonehaven, I am at about 2.5 on that and considering I just started chasing it I am doing ok.
Mustang, the big guys get sold out very quickly so you need to develop sources from the smaller mom and pop stores with little to no internet sales. It takes some leg work, but they are out there. I started with the low tax states in the Carolina's.
Just added 3 1/2 lbs. I gotta say, its nice how organized some of you guys are. I wish I could organize as nicely. As it is I just chuck the baccy in a beverage cooler.
