Weirdest thing happened to me today. Last night I smoked a cigar and a bowl of Redburn. Today I was trying HH Old Dark Fired for the first time and super excited. It smelt wonderful and I could smell all those flavours other people had mentioned in reviews but when I lit it up to smoke, I could taste almost nothing? It was like hot air? I smoked about half a bowl and thought my taste buds were defective. So I lit a bowl of Escudo and no issues? Tasted as it should. Anyone had this happen with a certain blend before?

When I first tried ODF I didn't like it at all. I put it away for 6-8 months then tried it again. I fell in love with it. I don't know if it was the pipe. I pulled out my Rad Davis Zulu to try it and wow it was great. I ended up buying 65 3.5 ounce tins. About half I paid 9.99 and the rest 10.99. Both were bought on sale. I only have 2012 tins. This thread reminds me that I need to crack another tin.

Slightly off topic, but thanks for reminding me of Redburn. I’ve kinda forgotten about it; my open tin has been undisturbed for at least a year.

Cool, thanks. In the cellar it goes!

I think it was just a one off. While I agree with Harris that ODF ages beautifully (my 2 pounds are also from the original batch), a fresh tin is not exactly a wallflower. I'd give it another try in a couple weeks in a different pipe. And as mentioned, make sure you dry it some.

All I can say is the bulk sample I had was a bit monotone and it tasted a lot better after blending in some Virginia.
I am still hoping the rest of it will mature into something better on its own.
