Hi all!

Next year I'll get married and the honeymoon will be spent in several US states and cities.

I'm a newbie in pipe smoking, so when I went to Boston and NYC 2 years ago, I wasn't interested in smoking and I missed Peretti in Boston and Nat Sherman in NYC. Anyway... It's no use crying over spilled milk, and since the two aforementioned cities won't be part of the honeymoon trip, I'm here to ask you guys where I can buy some good pipe tobaccos.

I've already searched for information in the web, looking at Maps, but I think asking to US members is the real deal :)

Bear in mind that we won't always have a car and that I'd like to avoid dangerous areas.

So far, I've only been able to identify one place, Georgetown Tobacco in Washington. Any other suggestion is greatly appreciated.

My honeymoon trip will be the same:
Nashville (TN)

Memphis (TN)
(we'll then travel across Mississippi, some cities to be defined, could be Vicksburg and Natchez)
New Orleans (LA)
This will be by car, so, for instance, if you know that in Jackson (TN) there's a fantastic shop which is worth a visit, that would be great!
Maui (HI)

San Francisco (CA)

Niagara Falls/Buffalo (NY)

Washington (DC)
I hope to get some help from you, guys!

Any answer will be appreciated!
Best regards,
Roberto

@Cosmic: Thank you very much! Looks like it's worth a visit, although in the other side of Jackson with respect to the road to Vicksburg :)
@tbradsmi1: Thanks, I've read that's dangerous to go outside the touristic areas and your words confirm my impressions, I won't venture off! :) Thanks!

If you're going to stop at The Country Squire let me know I'd love to swing by on lunch and smoke a bowl with ya. Also they have tons of awesome house blends that would be a great companion for your honeymoon.

In New Orleans there are a number of Cigar Factory locations that make their own cigars. There is also a cigar store in the quarter that has some pipes and pipe tobacco, can't remember the name of it off the top of my head. Stay in the quarter and the main areas of the Garden District and you will be fine. The Warehouse District and Magazine Street have some cool spots. Personally, I avoid Bourbon Street for the most part, head to Royal or Chartres, lots to see, do, eat and drink there.
Unfortunately, Grant's Pipes in San Francisco closed a few years back. Your best bet, if you can get just north of the Golden Gate Bridge, is to drop by Telford's in Mill Valley. They have great selection of pipes and tobaccos.

@FreakieFrog: Of course! Very kind of you! :)

@Brewshooter: Thanks for your suggestions, much appreciated! :) I'll look for N.O. cigar stores in the French Quarter!

Down in the French Quarter, be careful of signs indicating that a store is a pipe shop. These type pipe shops are usually for the glass pipes.
This pretty much will hold true for San Francisco as well, especially up in the Haight.

In Washington, D.C., ask the cab driver to give you a rundown on safe areas. Also, your hotel can give you info on that. As will most other hotels in other cities. You have planned an incredible trip. Better build in a little down time, a little private time -- it is a honeymoon! You're really covering the terrain. It should be fun. In New Orleans, I always take the stern-wheeler on the Mississippi for a whole different view of the waterfront. I am always amazed at the way the captains can navigate in that heavy traffic, like to watch from the low deck that is about a foot above the water. Be mindful in Hawaii; I had a friend killed there, apparently enraging some local who felt his photographing a luau was prejudicial in some way. My friend was there looking at the law school. I guess just "do" good manners and don't get too drunk.

I know you mentioned avoiding dangerous areas in your post, but I hope we aren't making things sound like they are out of control. As with anywhere, most cities have nice areas and places to avoid, but you are picking some great spots to visit.

Congrats on your marriage, and on marrying a girl willing to let you make stops on your honeymoon for pipe shops! Sounds like you'll mostly be in the eastern half of the United States. For my own purposes I made a list of shops across the country that specifically blend their own house tobacco mixtures. These are some of the best pipe shops in the country. Any of these would worth a visit:
- Iwan Ries (Chicago, IL)

- Bennington (Sarasota, FL)

- Boswell's (Chambersburg, PA)

- The Country Squire (Jackson, MS)

- L.J. Peretti (Boston, MA)

- Low Country (Little River, SC)

- McCranie’s (Charlotte, NC)

- Milan (Roanoke, VA)

- Nat Sherman (New York, NY)

- Park Lane (Clifton Park, NY)

- Paul’s (Flint, MI)

- Smoker’s Haven (Columbus, OH)

- Sterling (Sterling, IL)

- Straus (Florence, KY / Cincinnati, OH)

- Tewksbury (Denver, CO)

- Uhle’s (Milwaukee, WI)

- Watch City (Framingham, MA)

Thank you very much for your advice! Michael, awesome list! :) Even if I will only touch MS, I'll save it! You never know.
In the end, I think using good manners, being polite and avoiding getting drunk are all good practices!

I know that every city has its bad areas, it's the same here in Genoa where I live, I'd warn you if you asked for advice about Rome, Milan, Venice... bad areas are everywhere!

Nashville and Memphis were two of the pipe friendliest cities I'ver ever visited.
Nashville has Uptowns, a pretty famous shop:

http://www.uptowns.com/
New Orleans:

- no pipe shop in the Quarter (plenty of cigars).

- The Tinder Box in Metarie is right outside the quarter, Toby Ducotes home shop (small, couple of folding chairs). Plenty of pipe blends.
If you are driving, shoot me a route in the Mid-Atlantic and I'll plot all of those spots for you.

The easy thing to do is look at the Pipe Store Finder at the top of this page. Deathmetal essentially did the work for you but you may find others of interest. have a great trip.

Btw, Georgetown Tobacco is in a very safe place. Georgetown in the wee hours can be a little sketchy, but if you stick to the main drag and get back to your hotel by midnight, you'll be fine. IF you have a car in DC, just outside the city is JB Hayes in the Fair Oaks/VA mall. They have a terrific pipes section (but sadly no smoking in this temporary venue)
