I jar most tinned blends immediately upon opening with the exception of Cornell and Diehl products. For reasons I don’t understand, their blends seem to need a little decanting before jarring. I’ll let an open C&D tin sit for a couple days before jarring it. I’ll keep the lid on but not sealed so it can get some air.

We've had posts about how many open tins you have at any given time. I want to know how long everyone keeps an open tin in their rotation without jarring it -- not how long it "should" be left open, but how long it actually sits out?

It all comes down to your local temp/humidity.

It's been pretty hot and humid in the Northeast all summer, I would not be bothered about opening a tin in May and letting it sit "opened" (with the lid on obviously) until September/October.

That said, I usually keep open tins in a Cooler-dor.

The humidity where I live is 18% today which is just a little high.

I have no issues with an open tin for about 1-2 months before it is too dry for my preference. If a tin lasts that long. If I open a tin and don't repeatedly open it could take over 4 months before it's too dry.

Depends on the tin. The C&d style with the plastic lid will hold up for quite a bit. The square or round metal tins not as much once opened. Having said that though I've really come to smoke what I have open and keep it to maybe 3 open at the most. In the beginning I'd open everything but I find that it loses its oomph if not smoked within a month or so.

Depends on the blend. I leave the tin with the lid on until I like the moisture level. I check it daily by smoking a bowl.
If it is really moist, I will leave it with the lid off for a bit until I like the moisture level by feel or smoking.
You will have to decide for yourself when it is dry enough by regularly checking the tin.

Depends on the blend.
I opened a tin of Cult BRM in probably April....I finished it the other day. The last bowl tasted and was as moist as the first.
Most non aromatics I just smoke through a few at a time until they are gone. I have no problems keeping them for 2 months without jarring.
The ones I know I won't be smoking often get jarred immediately....or eventually, whichever comes first. :)

Tins dont get jarred or bagged in my case. I open them and smoke them till they are gone. I have two tins I'm working on right now. I only buy tins of new blends I want to try.
