So, shortly before the holidays I managed to blow up my right quad tendon in a silly accident at my daughter's school. Three days in hospital, surgery to repair what turned out to be a complete rupture, and now unable to drive for the foreseeable future. My wife, Anne, is taking the weight and being a champ to keep our little household going.

Needless to say, the injury has put a crimp in our holiday plans. However, still managed to have a great Christmas and it was especially rewarding to see things through the eyes of a child. Even found a way to cook dinner for 14 Christmas day!

The injury has made enjoying a pipe challenging, but did manage to hobble out to the shed this afternoon to enjoy a bowl of C&D Sunday Picnic in one of the NOS Philip Trypis pipes I scored recently. Otherwise, checking in regularly to PM Forums has helped keep me sane.

My first smoke in a Trypis pipe and it was all good. Dry, great draw.
Anyway, we're off to my sister's tonight to ring in the New Year. Despite some setbacks, still so much to be grateful for.
Here's wishing all of you a very happy, prosperous - and healthy - New year.

. . . in a silly accident at my daughter's school.
I know how you feel buddy. I've done really stupid stuff when I drink as well.
I really hope you are turning a corner and that 2014 will be fantastic in all respects.

Cheers Peck. Sadly, no booze involved. Just tripped running to catch the back door. As they say, life is what happens when you're making other plans :D

Thanks Smeigs. The Mrs argues childbirth is the most painful thing you can experience, but I'm here to say rupturing a tendon (I also did my Achilles 20 years ago) has got to be top 5!

I hate to hear about your misfortune, but love your attitude in that even with all that has happened there really is still so much to be grateful for. I wish you a speedy recovery sir, and keep up that great attitude.
BTW I love that pipe, it looks great and glad to hear it smokes well also.

They can put a super computer into a phone you can carry in your pocket but in a 100 years we still haven't been able to come up with a hospital gown that adequately covers your junk. I feel bad for the nursing staff I had during my hospital stay

Thats ok. when I had my heart attack last Easter they had to work with my cath tube RIGHT next to (1 in away from)you know where. From what I unfortunately saw from the pic you had at least 6 in of comfort zone.
The two things I saw from my time in the hospital was great care by the nurses, and despite the fussing that comes from any marriage I saw the true love of my wife. If you saw those, you had better Christmas presents then most.
PS did they give you good drugs?

Oh yea, morphine to the max. And the missus is a shining light ... even though I'm not always the best patient. Indeed, the nurses were amazing.
