I like to buy holiday blends. I want to believe they will match the season well. I've only tried a couple from C&D: Corn Cob Pipe and Golden Days of Yore. I did like Corn Cob Pipe last year, but I like much more Golden Days of Yore. Anybody had it? I feel like the nic is pretty decent too. What blends are you having this season?

A few weeks back I mentioned in a thread about Boswell's Christmas Cookie and Corn Cob Pipe and A Button Nose. I believe I also mentioned I wasn't a huge fan of Golden Days of Yore. But ya know what? I'm on my 3rd bowl of GDOY right now and it is awesome. I think I figured out the pipe, cadence, packing combo that works to make this a very nice blend. I hope you enjoy your blends and especially the holidays!

I opened a tin of 2008 Hermit Holiday but, it seems to be past it's prime. It has an aromatic added that reminded me of the old Wessex Premier Original Brown Label. It was this Premier Original series that I cut my teeth on back in the late 1980s. Sadly, I picked up a couple tins of the Brown label not too long ago and found it suffered the same fate.
I went back to a blend Christmas blend that still works for me at Christmas. Gawith's Christmas 2006, in bulk. I also opened a jar of 2008 FVF and an older tin of Skiff so, I've got it covered this year!

Pumpkin Spice, Trout Stream and Creme Brulee for the odd, 25 years ago for my last one, Aromatic craving. I also opened a tin each of G.L. Pease Odyssey, Solani Blend 633, Tabac Manil Reserve du Patron and Savinelli Doblone d' Oro. What can I say, c'est la fête!

Merry Christmas everyone! Health and Happiness!

Cringle Flake greatly exceeded my expectations. I try not to bad mouth others' product that they work so hard on, so I won't mention the others that I've tried.

After making my best effort of trying probably a dozen or so highly-acclaimed aromatics within the past couple of months, including many of the Christmas blends, I'm pretty done with aromatics. As a result I don't think I'll get many of the Christmas blends in the following years.

No issues, tongue bite, etc., I thinks it's just not my thing. I've never tried any of the heavier-scented Lakeland Gawith blends though. That'll be a last effort for me.

I love the fine cube cut of the C&D Corn Cob Pipe! So easy to smoke and burn. Just gravity fill and go! The only think I don’t care for about it, is the strong Hazelnut smell and flavor, it starts to get nauseating to me... My favorite Christmas blends that I’m smoking this year, are as follows...
-Cringle flake 19’ and 20’
-Christmas cheer 2005
-Stokkebye cube cut
-Peretti 150th anniversary
-Sutliff Crumble Kake red Virginia
-Sutliff Christmas spice

Cringle Flake is undoubtedly a winner. Last year’s version is good, too. Corncob Pipe (and a Button Nose) is simple and tasty. I opened some Sutliff Christmas Spice from 2018 that, I don’t remember liking at the time. It is very ”Christmas-y” now. I am planning on buying more to set back. Golden Days of Yore was not up to the other offerings for me. It has a few rough edges that, hopefully will mellow in the future.

What is meant by a few rough edges? I've read it many times.

For me, it is almost an irritant in the smoke. It can be quite slight and sometimes it feels like a ”tickle” in the back of the throat. I equate it to a sandpaper roughness to a smoke. It can, also, be just an imbalance in the blend, where all the components just don’t mesh.

Cringle Flake 2020 is probably one of my top 2 favorites of all time. It is simply a smooth smoke. I have been thinking about what available perique would be a good addition for 2019 Cringle. Another favored smoke this month has been Tashkent with a pinch of Lanes Vanilla Black Cavendish.
