I’ll try a cob. Don’t know how my dad did large pipes, but I have gotten so frustrated just trying to hold a straight pipe while working on other activities

I'm a clencher as well. I've found that bent pipes and soft tips are the ticket for me. I know soft tips aren't for everyone, but they work well for easier holding and letting a bent pipe also rest against the side of you chin.I’ll try a cob. My kids have found some larger sized ones that I may be able to work but standard rubiks puzzles hurt my hands too bad now.Rubik's Cubes
P-lips do provide a bit more surface area. Experimenting and giving enough time with each attempt may be necessary to find what works. And sticking with something may be necessary in order to get used to the feel. Having something stuck in your mouth for long periods of time may take some getting used to.If the other methods given don't work, maybe try a p-lip.

I’m sure if you do a search there will be quite a few threads on the subject.
Most of my pipes are estates. Some come with deep divots in the stems, others are pristine.
If teeth marks worry you, just use silicon/rubber bits. Which is what I do.
You’ll work out what works best for you.
If you have no thoughts of re-selling your pipes, then teeth chatter is purely aesthetic, and a matter for yourself solely.
