I’ll try a cob. Don’t know how my dad did large pipes, but I have gotten so frustrated just trying to hold a straight pipe while working on other activities

The Missouri Pride is the lightest of my medium size cobs at 1 oz. The Legend and Washington are just a tad heavier, but not noticeable. The 5th Avenue shape is noticeably lighter than the Rob Roy to me. Bent stem cobs clench better than straight stem for me when working around the house.

I'm a clencher as well. I've found that bent pipes and soft tips are the ticket for me. I know soft tips aren't for everyone, but they work well for easier holding and letting a bent pipe also rest against the side of you chin.

I can't really improve on the advice here, but I am willing to make a suggestion. If the other methods given don't work, maybe try a p-lip. Some hate them, some love them, but I find with my dentition that I can clench them a little easier than a fishtail but.

P-lips do provide a bit more surface area. Experimenting and giving enough time with each attempt may be necessary to find what works. And sticking with something may be necessary in order to get used to the feel. Having something stuck in your mouth for long periods of time may take some getting used to.

Do it however feels comfortable.
I just started doing it naturally due to typing online while smoking. :)
I use my front teeth just behind the tip and rest on my bottom lip sometimes. I have about 1/2 inch of the stem in my mouth at most. I'm not a molar clenched. No dentures here, I have all my teeth for now.

There has been a couple of recent threads eg “Show Us Your Most Comfortable Pipe” and “How And Why Do You Clench”

I’m sure if you do a search there will be quite a few threads on the subject.

Most of my pipes are estates. Some come with deep divots in the stems, others are pristine.
If teeth marks worry you, just use silicon/rubber bits. Which is what I do.
You’ll work out what works best for you.

If you have no thoughts of re-selling your pipes, then teeth chatter is purely aesthetic, and a matter for yourself solely.
I do the same thing. No marks on any of my stems, and a nice, cushioned grip. https://www.amazon.com/Rubber-Tobac...d73-aac8-48be877a9c74&pd_rd_i=B07MXP69ZZ&th=1
