Longtime lurker, first time poster. Been intrigued by pipes since my college days, when I did a lot of research with a pipe-smoking professor. I'm now 35 and I only smoke maybe 20 times a year...more like a recreational cigar smoker. But I've always loved collecting pipes and researching tobaccos.

My previous collection was mostly classic American estate pipes (Grabow, Yello-Bole, Kaywoodie) but I just inherited an estate of almost 50 pipes, some of which are higher-end Petersons and Danish freehands. Really changed my mind about these shapes and designs!

Welcome aboard from central North Carolina (Chicago area native, grad school transplant). I'm with you on the U.S. factory pipes as a special genre -- Kaywoodie, Dr. Grabow, Yello-Bole, etc. They remind me of 1950's classic cars. I also like a wide variety of factory pipes and some artisans's from various nations. I've spent some time in New York, mostly NYC and Long Island, but a little upstate as well, before my wife, who lived there, moved down here.

Welcome from the Central Coast of California! Ask any question, make any observation….

You can put your location in your Profile—(please!—because people will forget!) and which will save questions in the future as to where you live when you later mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, etc., etc..

Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state.

Where in upstate?
Currently in Saratoga County. I've been an upstater all my life -- lived my first 12 years in Rochester and then in the Buffalo area until I was 22.

I should mention my area is blessed with three great full-service B&M's -- one 10 minutes from my house, one within walking distance of my office, and CupOJoes within a half-hour's drive.

Welcome and greetings from Dutchess County, NY.

I was in Lake George for the Barrel Fest when all of the Covid craziness was just starting and planned on hitting up CupOJoes on the way back home but the wife did not want to stop.

I revisited Saratoga Springs and the racetrack after nearly 50 years absence. The town looks great; the racetrack not so much, nor the food there. Still, a dawn workout at the track is a treat.

WhAt did you not like about the track? It is the oldest sports venue in America! The food i could see why. Although i have box seats, we usually save our selves for dinner at el mexicana.

The horse deaths there have been an issue for the past few years...they increase every season. My company used to host a day at the track but they stopped after attendance dropped off.
