Howdy from Idaho. Welcome to forum.
When I was a private in the Army, they sent me to Alaska for Winter Survival and Warfare Training School in 1981. We Started at Fort Greeley and then got bussed up “north” to a place called Black Rapids Training Base.
Really learned to respect the winters up there!

Nothing like a good old fashioned Alaska-off, it’s much easier in TX where these things are settled by who has the bigger hat.

I grew up in Anchorage and I’ve never eaten whale so no hat is going to save me anyway. ?

I spent the summer of 2006 based in Fairbanks. Spent a few days in a Yupik village on the Yukon, and dip-netted reds on the Copper. For years afterwards I was dead set on going back to stay. But the length of day this time of year, even here in northern Wisconsin, is depressing, so I'm thinking that even further north wouldn't be good for me on that front.
We're glad that you're here -- welcome to the forum!
