My 3 dot Brigham came pre-oxidized on the top of the stem. I went with the hot soapy water soak and then I scrubbed it with toothpaste for about a month. Once I got sick of that I remembered I had some extra fine steel wool, so I used that and the toothpaste and it came off fine. There's still a couple spots near the mortise and bit but I just wanted to smoke the damn thing so I called it good. The rubber smell went away after but a single flake of Latakia. Eventually I'll buy a polishing disc for my hand drill and buff the stem up, but for now the Grandad look is just fine. Mine wasn't as bad as yours and you've already done the oxyclean so I guess you're a stuck with that, but for next time... Hot soapy water, toothpaste and scrub like mad.
