A fiver?? Lawks. That's pre-1954, I think. I'm no expert, but patent markings stopped around then.

It has a 7_ suffix which is what the stamp after 17 is and I’m confident of the date, lovely old pipe for a £5 pound note.

Yep, that's my reading of it after checking Pipedia. With a bit of TLC to get it up to snuff, probably a £300 pipe.

Yeah, that's a Dunhill thing in my experience. Take very good care of it, the value I put on it was conservative and it could find silly money at auction.

Smoke it carefully and slowly if you decide to do so as it is nearly 100 years old.
