So I went to my local tobacco shop this morning, asked if they had any Peterson Special Blends, and she opened up th cupboard and revealed the christmas blends from 2009, 2011 and 2012. I decided on the 2011. Got home this evening, opened the tin, and it seems really dry and crunchy before I even open the seal. I was going to go back tomorrow and try to exchange it for a 2012....any opinions?

Those tins aren't exactly airtight. Kind of hit or miss. It can be re-hydrated, or your B&M should hopefully take it back no problem.

Had some holiday blend at pipe club last week, pretty good stuff. Reminds me of Hooka tobacco, tasted just like it as a matter of fact. Interesting to be sure.

When I bought my Christmas 2012 blend it was pretty dry. The seals aren't air tight. I placed the blend in a jar with a hydrating button and it was fine.

I found Petersons much more delicious when they are a bit on the dry side. Also keep in mind that 2012 is a very intense Apple flavored tobacco, not everyone's cup of tea. I liked the 2011 better, and the 2010 best of the series. My recommendation: keep it, jar it, and rehydrate with a little humipak if you feel it's too dry.

I found one of those holiday blends (I think 2011) way too amped up on the dressings in

that it created a real burn in my mouth. Bite would be too modest. I felt that the dressings

were producing a chemical burn. I did the rare and unthinkable, finally, and boosted the

tobacco into the compost. Others may tolerate these blends well, but I steer clear. I can

take strong tobacco -- Nightcap, Five Brothers, and similar -- but this one made brushing

my teeth with peppermint toothpaste really hurt.
