I love Aromatics...love the way they smell...wish they all tasted as good...pour the stuff in a bowl with milk and

eat it, but until then...I will smoke "something else" :worship:

My favorite cherry blend is Mac Baren's 7 Seas Red. I also enjoy Lane Limited's Very Cherry and TK-6 Match. I'm also enjoying McClelland's Light Cherry Cordial as well.
For aromatics you really can't go wrong with Lane Limited, Mac Baren, or McClelland. Haven't had an aro from any of them yet that I've disliked. I'd also suggest keeping an eye out for Peterson's yearly offerings of Special Reserve, Summertime, and Holiday Season. The flavoring and leaf combo changes year to year, but it's always a wonderful quality aromatic.
It's also good when you're first starting out to sample the different styles. Pick up a good straight VA like GL Pease's Union Square or Sam Gawaith's Full Virgina Flake, a good VaPer like Robert McConnell's Scottish Cake or Escudo, and a good English blend like Frog Morton.
As for pipes definitely get a few cobs and then keep your eye out for estates. Smokingpipes.com has a wonderful restoration department that does top notch work. I've acquired a number of nice pipes through them at a very affordable price. For instance I picked up a $160 Peterson Rosslare Classic XL02 that looks brand new for $80. They update every Monday and Thursday.

I have a few of aromatics that I'm enjoying in this heat, and they might be great crossover flakes into the world of non-aros. HD's Original Mild Orange, Former's Private Stock, and MacBaron's Vanilla Cream Flake. All are very good Virginias, which means you should smoke them very very slowly. But, they have very sweet casings, and the flavor is subtle, but you can taste them. Former's is a very light apple casing, which you may have to focus to taste. Mostly I taste it as an after taste, like I had just drank an apple cider. The orange and vanillas are very light as well, but you can taste them, along with the very natural taste of the Virginias.
I like them in this hot weather because they make me salivate while smoking, which s good because I can't stand to smoke when the heat gets so intense that my mouth dries out.
However, you may want to wait till you get a briar pipe for these. I find that the flavor of Virginias is so subtle that I can taste that cloyingly sweet corn from the cob. But, I'm not a fan of eating corn either, so YMMV.
Edit: I might add that these are not the goopy super sweet aros either. So, if you want that syrupy sweet, then disregard.

Yes thesmokindragon I was a us fighter. I've since got out and just trying to enjoy life. I love to play cards and hang out in the great outdoors. I really want you to know all of you really how much I appreciate the messages I get back. I have me a notebook and taking notes so believe me your posts will not be wasted. I just really can't wait to get me a good pipe I know it sounds like I'm jumping in all gun ho but I don't feel like I'm getting the right taste outta the cob. It just seems too small. I think I will try and get me an estate pipe this weekend. I feel like I'm just getting like a burning flavor in my mouth. Don't get me wrong it got a lot better since I got better tobacco and maybe I'm hopeing that a good pipe will help with getting the burn out.
Ps. How do I send some one a friend request?

If you want to stick with aromatics for now, you might want to check out 4noggins sampler pack. I think you can get

one ounce samples that will give you a little more range and take you to tobaccos you might not otherwise try. You

can get other similar sampler packs that aren't aromatic. I'm aging a Frog Morton, the original blend, which seems to

be pretty generally liked. A bulk aromatic that I find pleasant is Lanes LL-7, lots of nice friendly flavors without burying

the tobacco itself.

All good advice here and I'll only add that before you christen that new Pete your eyeballing, get some more cobs to sample different blend/types of tobacco until something rings your bell. After you figure out that, hey, I really like this Frog Morton stuff or this Lanes IQ, then you can comfortably and safely break in your new briar. If you smoke 5-10 bowls of a heavy aromatic in it only to find out you really like a certain English mixture, your pipe will deny you the real benefits of smoking it. Just my 2 cents.

Boswell Pennsylvania Dutch Treat, Berry cobbler and even Raspberry cream should be right up your alley. Frog Morton you might like but it's gonna give you your first taste of latakia which for a newbe is perfect.

I want to try Dan Tobacco DaVinci. I have heard good things about it, but I guess that depends on who you ask. I bought Cult Blood Red Moon and Frog Morton Cellar to give them a try. I imagine that I will like both of those. Granted I really haven't had anything that I hated yet. Coming from cigars, pipe smoke is really mellow even with the stronger blends. I did get a little spin with Old Dark Fired which the only time that happened to me with a cigar was with Perdormo Champagne. I really like Hobbit's Weed. Very strong in the casing which you can taste the cherry and vanilla. If you like the tobacco flavor, it won't be the tobacco for you. Maybe I am just easy to please.

I just want to thank everyone. All this advice is great. This weekend im going to order the frog samplers and maybe 1 cobb. What is this taste of latakia you talk about. Can you all explain what I will taste from the frog morton which you say is an english blend compared to the house blend of cherry vanilla blend I have now. I think I want to get away from aros and go with a full taste rather than just to smell good lighting up. Im not giving up on aros yet but the advice im getting is just heading me in this direction for this part of the Journey!! Thanks again all and keep up good responses! Im so glad I joined and you have welcomed me with open arms.

if I had known what I know now back in the beginning I would go with a quality estate from someone like Briar Blues, James Island or the BST here. Boswells has excellent blends at reasonable prices. When you call in an order tell them what you are looking for. As a sampler from them I would go with Northwoods, Bear Blend and whatever flavors strike your fancy. I like mixing their Choc Cream with their Rasp Cream or their Peach Cream.

Good place to start with aromatics are lanes 1Q, RLP-6 and BCA.

Lane has a new tinned cherry blend called red sky.

Then Macbaren's seven seas blends for good quality tinned aromatic blends.

I really like Macbaren's Original choice. Their vanilla cream is also good.
Petersons sunset breeze and connoisseurs choice are good.

Dans Blue Note is a full on sweet fruity caramel coconut blend.
W.O. Larsen - Signature Vintage Mixture smells and tastes like strawberries to me.
As said the Boswells blends have a good rep.

So does Wilkes blends at vtpipes.
You will be in sweet smelling aromatic heaven !!!!

the boswell pricing is pretty good considering how popular they seem to be. they have many flavors and the owner is guaranteeing no bite from any of his blends and its a family run store so even better IMO.

Drew estate has a pretty good cherry blend. It's a little too sweet for me to smoke a whole bowl but it is great for a few puffs
