Hello, all! I purchased a number of estate pipes a while back and among them, this Comoy. On one side it looks like it once said "Royal Comoys". On the other, it has a circular imprint that said Made In England and a number that looks to me like 298. Whenever I look up a Comoys 298 it takes me to a Canadian that looks similar except for two major issues. One being that the pipe in question is not a Canadian, and two being that the pipe in question does not have an oval stem, whereas the Canadian that is stamped 298 does. Do any of you fine folks know a thing or two about Comoys pipes and care to take a stab at telling me what I have here. I'd like to get a rough age on it, if possible, but quite frankly dont know enough about pipes to even begin.

Thanks in advance!IMG_20200407_213045_02.jpgIMG_20200407_213030.jpgIMG_20200407_213022.jpg IMG_20200407_213045_01.jpg

Royal Comoy's were the first High Grade from Comoy, the precursor to the Blue Riband.
Made in the 20's and early 30's, confirmed by the Made in England circular COM stamp.
I have a feeling your pipe has been shortened, maybe due to a crack where the replacement stem is inserted.

That was the only conclusion myself and a friend could come to, but I don't understand why there would be an oval stem on the other Canadian with that number stamped.

Actually, there was a top grade prior to the Royal Comoy, the Prima.
I looked through the Comoy's catalogs that I have, 1909 (or 1911), 1939/40, 1950's, amd late 1970's and this number doesn't appear in any of them. You're sure about the number? It's possible that this pipe dates between 1909 and the late 1930's, in which case I wouldn't have it.
