Retrogasm: I appreciate your perspective. I apologize for my earlier rudeness. I stated my intentions and interest clearly in my original post. However, I do have an interest other than in selling the pipe. In fact, research that began for the sole reason of finding information to help me sell the pipe has broadened. I've found myself reading lengthy articles about other pipes, specifically about their histories, which I find fascinating.
As of now, I have decided not to sell the pipe. It's not worth my time, and I'd much rather own it than sell it at this point. However, I cannot imagine an honest discussion about the hobby of collecting of such pipes without discussions of value at some point.
FYI, retrogasm, I actually have a follow up question about the shape that is born only from curiosity and has nothing to do with selling anything, just a regular old question about the name and the specifics of the shape, like is the ledge around the bowl the reason for its being called a "sitter," but I'm discouraged from trying to learn any more about pipes or pipe collecting from this forum because I've been misjudged based both on false assumptions and, ironically, a rebuke of my explicitly stated intentions.
Also, funnily enough, there is actually a barter/sell section on this forum. I thought about putting my question in that subforum, but I do not want and would not accept any offers to buy my pipe from anyone on this site, and I am, after all, a beginner/newbie. Firstly, I am not so presumptuous as to think that anyone in a community of pipe enthusiasts would be interested in my pipe, and secondly, I'd prefer a more standardized marketplace if selling were my only goal, since I'm not really that familiar with selling things online. The thought that somebody here might purchase my pipe had honestly not entered my mind until I read your comment to that effect.
tbradsim1: I read through the forum guidelines at least once before I posted, and though I'm sure I've inadvertently violated some of the rules, even if tangentially, I cannot possible have violated as many in all my posts here as you have in your short comment on this thread.
You know nothing about me or my father. With respect to my story's being false, I can only chuckle. I figured out early in this thread that I shouldn't have given that information because many people lack the imagination to realize that there are many possible scenarios in which a man would sell his father's pipe that are benign, or at least not malign. I lamented my stating where the pipe came from soon after I made my first post. It's just not relevant, it's not anyone's business, and it invites assumptions that are impossible to reasonably infer. Please try not to judge a person on information that you couldn't possibly understand from my few words about how I obtained the pipe.
mawnansmiff: As I said to retrogasm, my interest is more than selling the pipe, and has evolved since I began researching and reading threads in this forum. I can leave, as two preferred member's have now suggested and/or requested, but I've done nothing here but state my intentions and ask questions about my pipe. Questions relating to value are common in such discussions, as I've learned from reading about these pipes in the last few days. In fact, again, I cannot imagine an honest discussion about the collection of such pipes without discussions of value.
I do not feel welcome here, but fortunately for me, I'm unmoved by your opinions. I apologize for not taking your possible reactions to my questions into account before posting, but nothing I asked was out of the ordinary. Please forgive my hastily posting about a subject that I don't know enough about to have a reasonable expectation of the reactions my questions could receive. I did not intend to be flippant or dismissive of pipes or pipe collecting. On the contrary, I have respect and am intrigued by the hobby.
