In my opinion the best starter pipe is a cob from Missouri Meerschaum. For tobaccos I second @Briar Lee 's recommendation of Half & Half, normally I'd also recommend Sir Walter Raleigh but the current batch apparently is really bad. If you have a B&M nearby I highly recommend getting some of their bulks, they're a great affordable way to explore different styles.

Thanks sorry I have been on vacation. Sitting at the airport now reviewing emails and things I have missed. Appreciate the advice and the pipe smoking has been going great! As has been mentioned no matter how much you read and watch you still have trial and error. The day before I left for vacation was the first time I woke up and my tongue felt normal! Hopefully I won’t have to completely reset now that I took five days off lol! I should have brought a pipe with me but had so much going on I didn’t want to deal with it, but definitely will on my next trip!
