While I realize that this type of taxation is grossly unwelcomed and savage at best, I don't know if I agree with the statement that pipe tobacco could become extinct. I think, if anything, it will make us reevaluate the way that we buy tobacco and our amount of consumption. Ill give you an example. I generally smoke 2-3 bowls a day. A 2 oz. tin of tobacco, at that rate, will last me about a week and a half. If you do the math on this one, if this tax hike does take effect, the price of a 2 oz. tin of tobacco will go up roughly 1.75 a tin. I realize that higher taxes suck, but to me, and the rate that I smoke, paying the extra 1.75 for a tin of my favorite tobacco is well worth it. I think there will be people out there who will continue to support the pipe and tobacco industry even if the tax does hit, and I think that instead of worrying, we should all continue to enjoy the hobby as we have come to know it. That being said, I am about to send my email and letter now. After all, I'll pay the higher tax if I have to, but I'll be damned if I'm not gonna give them a fight along the way.
