Jelly? Really? I never read or heard of that before. I don't think I would try that method. However if it works it works. How is your pipe smoking now? Details my good man! We need the details! I am happy you enjoy a "good ole" peanut butter and jelly sandwich but how is your pipe since you put grape jelly in the bowl? Don't leave us in this state of mental uncertainty! The anxiety and suspense is killing me! Does the jelly work? Is it the end all cure? Details man! Answer your own thread for the love of jelly! LOL :puffpipe:

So sorry guys I've been to busy enjoying bowls in my jellyed up peterson to remember to post on here haha. All is well with the pipe first smoke was smooth and ash was sticking evenly to the walls of the bowl ill take updated pics I've had two or three bowls in it last I spoke on here so ill post pics to show you the cake building process. Other then that it's still smoking the same really I didn't much to it.
The jelly is doing its job very well the but the pipe itself still smokes A little hot and moist for my liking so I need to micro mesh the pipe and recoat it with a breathable wax as oppose to the varnish it has now and. Practice my sipping I suppose.

it is likely to smoke hot to touch until some sort of cake has formed, as well the pipe may smoke alittle hot to the mouth (smoke temp) until a cake is form.

I know that my comments won't be to the exact issue at hand, but may I complement you on the excellent photography? Those close-ups are terrific!
I going to guess you are not using an 'iphone' type device. Am I correct? Close up lens? macro lens?
thanks

allan

As a matter of fact Allan in using an iPhone 4 a lot of people don't realize this but when taking pictures with your iPhone if you tap the screen the picture will focus where you tap so I just put the bowl up to the camera and tap in the center of the bowl which focuses the inside of the bowl. It's not perfect but decen enough. Thanks for asking .

Heres the update some of the pics are blurry cause i rushed to take them this morning but you can make out how the entire surface is coating nicely compared to the photos above of the pipe being reamed.

Pipe looks good. If you're still going to fret about it smoking a tad hot I'd build up a cake ASAP. Having more material between the ember and the wood should help with your heat issue. As well as ajusting your cadence, but that goes without saying.
Get some Burleys and some VAs in that pipe!

no worries its in my rotation and it will get there eventually the point is to know how i should smoke each of my pipes and with this particular one ive learned to take it slow. That being said taking it slow is pretty much the pipe smoking hobby Motto. :puffy:
