Are they good smokers?
Like any estate pipe made by a large manufacturer the pipes smoking qualities are more attributable to the PO’s treatment of the pipe and quality of the restoration/cleaning work done by the new owner. They are well system pipes just Peterson System and Savinelli Dry System and in that respect they preform just the same. Every WDC I’ve ever had was good smoker.

Yeah, thats why I want it. I want a system pipe but cant swing the 100 just yet for a Peterson I've had my eye on, and this looked similar. I'm going to hold out and keep cheaping around like you said. Thanks for the info.

There’s still hope. I got this 314 system for ~$80 ($68+tax & shipping) on eBay. Smokes great, nice & dry. I’ve seen them go way cheaper but I love the grain so I splurged. I second or third the comment on low res pics. No excuse unless you’ve got something to hide.
This model has quickly become my favorite, and I have 3, with another on the way...
2 of them are smooth grain like yours - which looks great BTW
They just seem to be perfect in every regard for me
-chamber dimensions
-angle of rim relative to my eyes
-perfect clenching angle & weight
-and for me the P Lip is genius in all regards
I may end up with a whole stable full of 314's if I'm not careful

Buy and enjoy whatever you like!

Just for possible reference, here is a little Kaywoodie unsmoked estate Connoisseur I picked up for around $50 just for the heck of it. Haven’t smoked it yet but it looks perfectly made and I have no doubt it will be great. View attachment 192627
Funny, I was looking at that exact one on Pipes & Cigars yesterday, but ultimately went with the Ebay Wellington, not the one shown here though. I passed on it it was too rough. I was wondering though if that Kaywoodie model you have has the built in stinger system?

And another for reference, and again, search out whatever suits your eye or your fancy, here's a little Chris Morgan Bones Bent Kiwi. $45.00 and it is a terrific smoking pipe - I try not to question why I would spend more (and definitely do, lol), but between the Kaywoodie above and this one, I probably don't really need any other pipes (ducking as lightning may strike me down).5FA2C164-B695-4F6B-B5C8-F922A70415FB_1_201_a.jpeg
