If you really enjoy that nutty, earthy, cocoa thing going on, I'll second mso's recommendation and get yourself a brick of Tabac Manil Semois.

Very cigar-like, but with more subtlety. Dry as a bone and a quick smoke and no topping whatsoever, but it scratches that "pure" burley itch (even though it's considered its own varietal and only grown in a region in Belgium, it is still a type of burley).

Also, stay on the lookout for C&D's Eight State Burley Small Batch when they release it. It's a great blend and I smoke it regularly even though I'm pretty much a Virginia smoker.

If you want to try two straight Burley blends, these are considered a few of the finest.

In stock too. :)

I have this Solani, it’s really nice. Sip it slow, and it has a really nice, herbal earthy tone to it.

I’ve not had the Uhle’s

I believe this is just a different cut of Blend 00.

P.S. Uhle’s doesn’t use PG, if you’re into having PG free blends. :)

Welcome to the winning team, fishmansf. You already got some great recommendations here, but I'll add a few of my own.

Boswell's "Old School" - a wonderful take on a classic style. It's essentially like a gourmet spin on Prince Albert. If you like the naturally nutty and cocoa flavors of burley, then give this a try.

C&D's "Haunted Bookshop" - this is one of those blends people either love or hate, but you did enjoy Old Joe, and this blend uses much of the same tobaccos. I've described this blend before as being like a bold, black coffee; it's got a good nic hit and is not complicated. Sip slowly and enjoy.

G.L. Pease's "Barbary Coast" - this blend is earthy and slightly sweet, with a boozy top note. There's a lot going on in this blend, but it is a surprisingly repeatable smoke.

Peterson's "Irish Flake" - now we're in the big boy territory, son! A big wallop of air, flue, and dark-fired burleys. A lot of vitamin N on this one. My advice is to make your flakes fine, and smoke in a somewhat larger pipe. Though maybe smoke a small amount at first if you are sensitive to nicotine.

A lot of great burley blends listed above. Haunted Bookshop is fantastic. Granger is certainly my everyday, all day staple at work, but I'd add Five Brothers to the list too.
I just suggested it on another thread. It's a straightforward burley, and it is strong, but I've always thought it tasted great - like burley - and not as overwhelming as maybe it's reputation would lead one to believe. Maybe not something for all day, but with a cup of coffee at 6 am, it'll motivate you. Have fun on your tasting journey!

If you like Old Joe Krantz, you may very well like Haunted Bookshop. They contain the same constituent tobaccos, just in different proportions. I like them both but tend to reach for HB more often. I find it to be a little less bold, a touch lighter in nicotine without quite as much Perique. They both have their place in my rotation.
Love OJK, dislike HB.

Wow! I got this far into the thread and no one mentions Pegasus? God I love that blend.

I also have to mirror the Uhles 00. I love the cut and it’s pure burley goodness. The Perfection Plug is also very good. Sip them slowly.

Haunted Bookshop? Fancy name is all. It’s just… ok to me. Tried it many times.

I like it best in a pipe with a 13/16” chamber or larger. Just my $0.02

If you want to add some sweetness, add stoved VA (like Sutliff Stoved VA 507-S), let it sit for a couple weeks or so. I rub out the flakes & mix into the HB, ratio of 30% stoved to 70% Haunted Bookshop.

Nice. I got 4oz of C&D Old Joe Krantz from Cup O' Joes. The earthy and barky flavor is too strong for me. I can't even finish half of a bowl.
I would mix it with Navy flake or Aromatic, cutting down sweetness and give them deep flavor.
