Welcome aboard from central North Carolina. I grew up in your part of the world, a near northwest suburb of Chicago on the commuter rail line to downtown. I commuted my first two years of college to what is now University of Illinois Chicago, which was a satellite to Champaign Urbana when I was there, and my first year was located on Navy Pier, a literal freight pier in Lake Michigan.

But seeing "hunnert" popped up a memory of my old Dad, who died 50 years ago: It drove him mad! He was an English major, and that pronunciation (common enough in the Midwest) set him afire! One hundred, he would correct.
