Welcome to the forum from southwest Michigan. By any chance are you a Heywood Banks fan? He has a funny song called toast.

Thanks for the tip. The laughter in the background was extremely disturbing, but I love that sort of clever lyric.

Great to have another Jake Thackery, Tom Lehrer, Noel Coward to explore. Thanks!

yeah before I found this forum I had three pipes. A meer churchwarden, a Italian Lumberman, and a falcon with a single bowl. Now I got 9 pipes I smoke regularly.
I started out with a Falcon too, really good pipe for learning with I think - it gives you a bit of an insight as to what's happening under the cover as it were.

O dear though - my PAD is clearly out of control. I'm up to 60+ pipes not counting clays & cobs (I've only the one cob left, I couldn't stand them). Eeek!

I have two cobs. Neither are M.M. cobs, instead they're old dominion cobs. Which I find way better. I didn't start with a falcon by the way. I started with a cob first which I didn't really get wowed by then got a basket briar and mainly had one to two pipes at a time.

Mine have all been MMs, so that's a good tip, thanks! Been thinking I should maybe try again sometime this year.

I stalked pipe websites for years before I finally picked one up. I just really like them as objects!

The Old Dominion are not as popular but I like them a lot better. For me a big part is the draw it's more restricted.
My technique has probably improved a bit (hopefully) since the last try too.

Mainly I didn't like the cob flavour I think (much prefer breaking in briar flavour if I had to pick).

Either way, something to try again, so I'll remember that - thanks!
