Accidentally wrote my hello in general discussion unless it got moved for all the content.

Anyway hello, again glad to be here. Look forward to my pipe education and journey. Speaking of education, I recently found out there's a school for tobacconist etc... Its online. Thought it was interesting. I mean what can't you learn online these days?

Been watching videos on how to properly load a pipe. Still learning that. 1 out of 3 is correctly packed. I've tried loading in layers. Loading a big overflowing wad. But mostly I scoop it in with my thumb or finger trying not to force it too tightly and only slightly packing down the last bit. I seem to be most successful with this method. But still usually wind up repacking 2 out of 3. Maybe one day, with time and experience, I'll figure it out.

Welcome from Sweden!
Dry your tobacco properly, pack looser and focus on the feel of doing it not on any instructions and you'll increase your success rate.

Welcome from Savannah,Georgia!

While there are methods to packing a pipe, it's still an individual preference. Packing the pipe and smoking it will teach you what you like and prefer. I personally like a very slightly firm pack. That doesn't mean that's right for you. There's no right way, there is a definite wrong way, you can't draw air through your pipe. ?

You will find what you prefer sooner rather than later, so don't put so much concern into it.

Lots of good information, people and entertainment here, enjoy yourself!

You can overthink packing. Stuff it in, check the draw, light it up. Tamp gently and regularly through the smoke. Take your time. Remember what works for you and what doesn't. You'll get there.

Greetings and salutations, glad you are here.

When I returned to pipe smoking I got the worst tongue bite. Took days to get rid of it. I take every bit of advice with a grain of salt. Try different ways of loading, try different pipes out, and most important... Slow Down. When I learned to take my time and slow down, everything else just sort of fell into place.

Welcome from Virginia.Dry tobacco is a big plus. You don't want it to stick together too much when pinched hard.Should be springy.Shag cut tobacco is good, too, when dried properly,as you can pack it tighter and still get a good draw.Just don't stress out too much over it.
