Hi everyone,

I'm from South London and started smoking pipes this year, about 6 weeks ago. I've been researching, experimenting and getting quite into the hobby. I'm smoking three Peterson pipes: a Grey Prince Churchwarden, a Standard System 317 and a B42.

My tobacco collection includes 14 blends, mainly Peterson and Samuel Gawith. My favourites at the moment are Early Morning Pipe and Nightcap, aromatic-wise I like Royal Yacht and Connoisseur's Choice.

I thought I could figure out which blends I would prefer by the different tobaccos in them (virginia, latakia, burley, etc.) but I've found I have to take each blend as it comes.

I look forward to chatting with you all and thanks for having me aboard.

Welcome! What a wonderful start to your journey. At a few months into the obsession I read about and then took it upon myself to smoke samples of straight tobaccos. It was a marvelous time of growth. It really helped give me a crash course in understanding the differences and recognize their characteristics amongst the magic of the blender's creations. Looking forward to hearing of more of your discoveries!

Welcome aboard! I have a Peterson's Prince Churchwarden that is a fantastic smoker.

The Prince does seem to smoke incredibly smoothly.

At a few months into the obsession I read about and then took it upon myself to smoke samples of straight tobaccos.

I think I may be doing this at some point. I'm curious about how the different tobaccos taste and burn individually.

Thanks for the warm welcome and everyone's suggestions and tips.

Welcome! Fantastic choices in pipes and tobaccos, if I may say so. The mental picture is eerily reminiscent of my end table...
317 is one of my favorite pipes. Have you noticed the development of any preference for certain tobaccos in certain pipes?

Thanks indo. Only the 317 has developed a cake layer, since then I've noticed an improvement in taste so it's difficult to compare it with the others. At the moment I'm not too particular about what goes where but so far it seems...

Virginias taste better from the 317, aromatics seem more flavourful in the B42. The Prince churchwarden gives blends with latakia a boost, the very smooth draw and dense smoke are a good combination.
