Welcome again!

Please put your location in your Profile, as people are forgetful.
Why: It will save time for others as to where you live when you mention local stores, weather, tobacco prices, availability, regulations, location of photos, wildfires, air quality, etc. In many instances that saves time for those who read your posts, and for you in not having to reply to inquiries. .
How:
Under your avatar, (top right, left most of three symbols) you choose "Account Details", which brings up "My Account". "My Location" is halfway down. Whatever you're comfortable with- town, city, county, state. province, etc.

Hello folks,

I'm originally from The Hunter Valley, NSW, Australia but currently living and working in Stockholm, Sweden.

I've tried smoking pipes on-and-off for the past ten-or-so years. Previously I was looking for a replacement for cigars (too expensive & too smelly) and now I'm looking for a replacement for Swedish snus (I think it's something like dip in the US) because it's a) too wet & gross; and b) I always feel I need something to drink with it, so I'm either loaded up on coffee or booze just to support my snus habit.

I like the pipe because for whatever reason I don't feel the need to have any liquid with it, unlike cigars and snus. Unfortunately I have a real problem with tongue bite, which I suspect is chemical and genetic, not related to smoking speed. This has been largely nullified (but not completely eradicated) by using filtered-pipes, including a Peterson P-Lip and experimenting with tobaccos, avoiding the more burny-ones.

Currently my favourite toby is Squadron Leader.

Anyway, nice to be aboard. Seems like a nice forum.
Welcome, Anchovies.

Sweden os a beautiful country. Enjoy your visit here.

I thought I did put my location?

Stockholm, Sweden in case there’s a misunderstanding.

Greetings from Idaho, USA. Welcome to the forum!
Fun forum name and Avatar. I love Sardines and Anchovies.
You can use the search function on the forum to locate previous or active threads/ posts covering almost everything pipes and tobacco.
Tongue bit has many.
Funny and confusing and irrelevant fact … in Sweden they call anchovies (those salty, oily fish you put in pizza) “Sardeller” (like my profile pic) which translates to “sardines” and they call what-we-call “sardines” (the tinned fish you put on toast with vinegar) “anchovies”.

has caused me to order one or two strange pizzas accidentally.

They also have something called “surrströmming” which tastes, smells and looks like a tin of rotten fish. The reason being that IS a tin of rotten fish. Beware if you ever try Swedish food … that is the worst “food” in the entire world. YouTube it.

Excuse me for ranting irrelevance.

Welcome from New Zealand, and for your tongue bite, have you tried pairing warm water rather than booze or coffee?

Personally, I get tongue bite from any blend with perique in it....
P.S. I know I already responded to this but anyway ... r.e. my original post, I actually don't usually pair my pipe with anything at all. Coffee and/or booze is needed for me to enjoy Swedish snus tobacco, and is the reason I want to quit that. I usually smoke the pipe without any liquid. But I did try warm water this morning as you suggest. Apart from not being very nice (I usually like my water cold!), it unfortunately didn't make a difference.

The tongue-bite I'm getting these days is very minimal and tolerable anyway.

But thanks anyway.
