Welcome from San Jose - If you are ever come north, Mission Pipe Shop is a must stop - lots of house made bulk blends and a number of tins available- I picked up some Esoterica Dunbar and Dorchester on my last visit.
As to the desert of SoCal, perhaps the closest good pipe shop is in the desert proper.
Palm Desert Tobacco Inc. is pretty good.
Actually, closer is Santa Barbara Cigar & Tobacco on Figuero St. Got a couple of nice estates there.
